Brandoson's LD9 Prototype Turbo kit

Brandoson does it again. first with the ECOTEC and now with the LD9.

We knocked it out in under 48 hours. We started on a friday and finished the next night.

We tried something different for the charge tubes on his car. We went with 2.25" to the intercooler and 2.5" from the intercooler to the TB.

We had a few issues with the turbo itself once it was finished. We discovered that when Dan took it apart to rebuild it he assembled it wrong

We fixed the problem and the turbo ran good. We had an issue with the map sensor I believe, but from what I've heard Dan fixed that problem now.

I'll let Dan update you on any other details.

Thanks to Justin and Dan for helping me build this kit, and Rob for his moral support

ok, on with the pics!!!

getting the car ready

Turbo and Manifold (exploited manifold btw)

Miscilaneous turbo parts (couplers, vacuum hose, t-bolt clamps, BOV)

More getting the car ready...

Intercooler Mounted

Turbo and Manifold Installed

The beautiful downpipe... im so proud of it It looks much better than mine. I may end up re-doing mine now that I'm a little more experienced.

Fitting some charge tubes

and the finished product...

starting from the TB

what do you guys think?

Looks good man, love how you ran the charge pipes.

Did you paint the cam towers and timing chain housing while they were on the car?

yeah, It was a quick job haha.

I want to re-do one of the bends for the charge tubes because its a little close to the frame, almost touching. Other than that I think it came out nicely.

We have yet to get any dyno numbers or track times yet. It wont be long though.

humm very nice pictures... i am doing that same way for the hot air side...

i got a question though... could you fit that tube that goes by the lower engine mount all the way up in that spot? if so would a 2.5" pipe fit up there?

Also if you have more pictures of the charge pipes (mainly hot side) could you post them or send them to me over email?

It can fit up in there if you cut the motor mount bolt a little shorter.

I dont have any other pictures but Dan (MyZcar) might.

Wow..... where did you get that manifold? that thing is older than the pyramids. Not to mention i only made 2 manifolds with that design of there being short tubes for the middle 2 runners.

That is the manifold that you sold to Joe Lai (RaginAzn). It had some major holes in the welds that had to be patched.

I'm not saying anything about your current manifolds because I have not seen them and I've heard they have improved. You must admit though... that manifold you sent out was far from perfect So yeah its pretty old.

it was a good long 48 hours but well worth it in the end. i rode in it last night and whoa man.....it pegs out on the govenor at the top of 3rd gear.

How would it hit the speed governor in 3rd gear?3rd gear is only limited to like 89 or 90 mph.

Get a hold of me, I have pictures of my kit, which is exactly how you are asking about. It doesn't hang down all that far, but it is underneath the pan a little bit (about an inch).

really.....how did you manage that .... I top that gear out at 125-130kph........ not at my speed limiter (around 170).....

so how did you manage that ???

in 3rd gear.... I can do it in 4th..................my forth gear goes to around 185kph...

currently i have a bout a 6" piece on pipe for the intake and i dont really have room for a filter to there is really small mess there to keep things out of the intake. it is hidden under the brake master cylinder.

also i think there is a misunderstanding with the info above about the govenor. i hit the governor in forth gear around 4500 - 5000 rpm. and the top of third is about 90 -95 mph.

i am also working on bringing the hot side charge pipe up a bit higher i just havent got around to it yet. i should be hitting the track this coming friday so hopefully i will have some numbers to show.
