i was just wondering what people are running on their 2.2's with stock internals in the 1/4 and how much boost is safe to run on stock internals 5-6psi? thanks

5-6 is fine... even non intercooled
intercooled, thats beyond fine the engine will love it
but I've seen people blowing 10-11psi of boost on stock internals on an OHV
not sure how long they last like that tho... and tuning is definetly key.... fuel upgrades such as injectors, and possible a fuel pump... and monitoring devices (piggy back controller + wideband) will make your life easy...
DO NOT put a turbo on your car without doing supportive mods... (see above)
but that should put you around the 200hp range...
I am planning on turbo charging my 2200 on stock internals initially, then swapping the bottom end out for a fully built peice later on...
I don't think it'll be done by the bash as I've started working on my project supra as well... but i'll be sure to post if turbo charging the cav gets pushed up
Looks to me like the main problem on the 2200 engine is basically the injectors. They are 19lb injectors which is pretty much the max for the engine's HP rating. Injectors and a fuel pump should be all you really need, especially considering the 8.5:1 compression or whatever it is.
I am going to turbo charge my 2000 z24 but I dont know how much boost to run with out changing the engine enternals,\I couldnt find anything on that specific engine I will also be using an intercooler .As well I was wondering what size injectors would be safe and what kind of FMU I should use . I would have started a new topic but I cant seem to \sorry for jumping on some onel elses post
THANKS
19lbs uh thats pretty weak... i am getting the rsm supercharger,,,, will i really need to do the injectiors, or will the reprogramed computer help enough,,,, if not where should i get new injectors, to support it, and will a fuel pressure regulator help me alot with out injectors done?
Chase the ace, but your nothing with out bass.
The stock fuel injectors should be good for about 170 hp, if they are 19lb. injectors. I would want to go above that number without upgrading the internals anyway. I suppose thats about what you would make with a turbo running 6 psi intercooled.
would like to note: I heard that the STOCK pushrods in the 2200 can't withstand too much -- heard horror stories of them failing around 180/200 horsepower....but i only heard this once never heard it again don't remember where. Other than that the 8.5:1 compression is awesome for turbo but the fuel system is weak but injectors, fmu, fuel pump and some sort of monitoring device will set you free.
Seems like S/C would be the best bet with out building the bottm end. Turboed looks like something you would have to keep up with EVERY day and keep droping money into it. ( on this car)
I wouldnt go past 10PSI as a max on a stock bottom end, not saying it cant be done, but just a margine of safety.

Just saying S/C runs lower boost most of the time is a cheaper bolt on set up.
Damn what a waste. I understand you have what you have to work with. But three grand whats the WHP on that kit. I also notice they do turbos with no IC. Thumbs down.

I have never heard of the stock pushrods breaking/bending from too much power. My 2.2 is putting out 220-230 hp with the stock pushrods with no problems. You could probably bend pushrods from having a big cam and/or stiff valve springs.
