Just wondering what you guys have done to intercool the eco SC, what parts you have used and how you have it mounted up.
I don't think to many have integrated it into the stock cooling system, but that would be interesting to hear about as well.
Also, if anyonew can mention what IAT's were before and after that would be great....

I just recerived my hoses today in the mail so I'll set mine up tonight and tomorrow. I'll get some IAT temps before and after for you too.
I'm on a stock pulley right now too but going to the 3.0 in the next week or so. I want to get the intercooler/heat exchanger up and running first.
Set up:
ZZPerformance Intercooler Pump
Aftermarket 03/04 Cobra Heat Exchanger (27X6X3, I think?)
Cobalt SS Resevior (need a bigger one!)
3/4 inch heater hose to all parts and running a 90 degree elbow on the TB to a RK Sport WAI
(heat exchanger is mounted to the front bumper by welding brackets on it)
All on it's own cooling system too, not integrated with the engine's coolant
Should have something in the next few days.
Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
who are you calling a hoe?

^^^^ Lol.
I wouldn't mind seeing how everyone has their heat exhcnager's setup. I'm trying to find parts/ideas for mine so i'm sure it will help me as well as other.
listening... I have a parts list at home which *should* include everything needed but haven't bought or installed anything yet. might post it later
15.574 @ 89 mph stock without charger. new times with charger coming soon.
im using alot of the stock redline/cobalt ss/sc parts , and a heat exchanger off ebay (same one airtonics is using)
my advice to those building setups... you can get the stock gm pump, but i'd get a bigger reservoir (preferably one with a big cap to be able to put ice in it) and a bigger heat exchanger.... most of the cobalt SS guys with smaller pullies are starting to find the stock intercooler inadequate. Don't bother buying all the oem stuff if you're looking to really push it.

funny thing about that GM has taken the 2 core heat exchangers out of their race cars and gone back to the stock cores
but they are modifing them slightly , they are making the coolant run up and down several times through the core instead of doing it once
Does somebody have a nifty little diagram showing how all of this works together?

Phlatcav does. Hopefully he'll post it here.

I think this is Phlatcav's picture you're talking about.
Is the heat exchanger powered in any way?
What kind of coolant is to be used? Distilled water?
Is this all rigged up to a switch so it can be enabled and disabled?
The water pump runs the coolant though the whole system. I have my pump wired up to a relay that comes on when the key is in the ignition (on, acc). Im using Dexcool, its recommended by gm for the manifold and my heatexchanger is from a cobra and ford recomends using excool in it as well.
Awesome, thanks for the info.
Say you want to listen to the radio in a parking lot waiting for somebody. (I do it often) Would it hurt to have Dexcool pumping through the intercooler system?
What is the life of Dexcool?
How strong does the waterpump need to be?
Thanks for taking the time to answer...
5year 150,000 miles on the coolant
the pump should last a long time , atleas the gm or ford pumps should, not sure about the other aftermarket pumps

yeah but aren't they also running a MUCH larger intercooler core and reservoir? And by race car you mean the phase 5 cobalt program cars or the big cars like kubo and gardella? i didn't think either of them were still using anything from the stock intercooler, I know they don't use the laminova core-in manifold setups...

That diagram helps me SOOO much, lol.

the grand am cup cars , that run on the road courses , as far as i know they are using all stock componets now for the intercooler system , just the heat exchanger has been modified
also you cant change the size of the cores in the intake manifold
the phase 5 cars are turbo charged , and for drag racing
How exactly did you mount the intercooler itself and to what?

97cavie,
how are u using one on your ld9 s/c? there is now housing for coolant to go thru.? Or did i completly miss that?

Mounted it just like a front mount intercooler.
