if you're making custom piping you're going to need the turbo mounted and the intercooler mounted before you make the piping. Theres no way you'll be able to "set it up" before hand unless you have a set of pre-fabricated charge pipes. Youre better off to mount both of them , measure and start cutting. IF you have pre-fabricated pipes....well then just ignore everything I've said.

Good luck running that tubing, man. Without drilling a hole in the pass. side wall, the only way I saw to use an intercooler like that was to run the tubing under the condenser. My car's so damn low, that wasn't an option, really. Instead, I went with a FMIC with same-side inlets and outlets. Think it'll work a LOT better, honestly.

Why is that?, all you have to do is run a u-bend or a couple 90's around the radiator and condensor. At least thats what I did, along with alot of the 2200 guys.

I also said that my car was really low and that I didn't want the tubing to be even remotely close to the ground.

Also, when all your tubing is made out of stainless steel, using that much is a downright waste of money. For me, at least.

you don't think my car is low ?????

either way in this picture shown here:

you will notice that the stock part of the car is actually lower then the piping is, so if your scraping that, you still won't hurt the piping, I have never once scraped the pipes.

I spent like 400 for all the piping, couplers, and my bar and plate intercooler, that is cost effective enough for me

man thats alot of piping couldnt you of clocked the turbo downward to save you 2ft worth of piping

^^^^^ He's internally gated, so he couldn't clock the turbo do to the gate and the fan assembly, at least I think thats what he said.

Everyone's got their own "bag." I like my method better--no harm, no foul. Especially since I have to hand-polish all my piping to look like my intake. The less the better.

Yes it is a lot of piping, but I have virtually no lag....... seriously......... the turbo is sized perfectly to create an efficient set up

you are correct, the swing arm on the actual turbo is in 1 spot, you can't move the swing arm location, and the fan is definitely in the way....................

if I was externally gated, NO problem....

I also don't like the idea of having the hot turbo pipes running right beside the oil return.

who says you cant clock the turbo down when your internally gated?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ you and I both know that your manifold was created differently for YOUR app. mine isn't angled up, your wg is out of the way because of that reason.

Thanks anyways

Lee, you DO realize to take out the piping this is all you need to do:

Unbolt downpipe.

CLOCK THE TURBINE SIDE.

Now clock the compressor side.

Mount wastegate to swing valve on TOP of turbo.

Make new downpipe cuz RSM f'd you again and did everything upside down.

Enjoy all the newfound room you have for piping.

"I can't run it under there because the turbine is clocked so I have to run the gate under the turbo"

and I don't want to drop another $300.00 on a s.s. mandrel dp again, and redo the charge piping again ..... for get it .....

happy chris ........

What does the size of the turbo and no lag have to do with the excessive length of the charge pipes?

Re: picture request for intercooler piping on 2200

becuase usually the length of the charge piping will produce more turbo lag. so since the turbo is sized right, he can use longer charge piping with out the negative effect of lag

Well, long charge pipes equal more space for the compressed air to fill before the system is pressurized. This will result in what is called turbo lag.

Volumeking333(Ryan) wrote:becuase usually the length of the charge piping will produce more turbo lag. so since the turbo is sized right, he can use longer charge piping with out the negative effect of lag

My piping is very small, it is 2" charge piping, this also helps with the amount of space inside the pipes. it is small and this equals no lag because there is very little volume to fill.

2" charge pipes, people look down upon because they think they are TOO SMALL.

My theory is, since it is FORCED INDUCTION, the piping size being 2" will just help with the lag factor. whether it's being forced through 2" pipes or 2.5" pipes, it's still forced induction at the end of the day.

Hope that clears it up.....

oh.... and myself and ken2.2 use 2" charge pipes, he likes it and so do I.
