Help with new headlight wiring harness
Friday, December 04, 2009 12:21 PM
I just bought a heavy duty wiring harness for my 03 cavalier because I needed one to handle 100w light bulbs. So I installed it alright and everything. When I put that little plastic piece cover overtop the headlight once it's in the socket, it moves the headlight upwards and it hits the metal piece inside the housing. it does it on both headlights now and is really annoying. I think the heavy duty wiring is too big and it knocks it up once the plastic piece goes on. I tried cutting down the original wires so only the heavy duty wiring harness would show, but that is not working either. I also tucked all the wires in the outside of the housing just so it doesn't get in the way of the cover, but that didn't help either. And now the plastic pieces that hold the headlights in the housing broke off so I need to get new ones for them. Please help!

get HIDs and projectors.

all you're going to do with 100w bulbs in stock housings is melt the housings.

any other opinions? i bought the heavy duty wiring harness so they wont burn up like the other ones did. i dont have the money for HIDs plus their illegal. the stock housing is not going to melt i dont think because the bulb isnt touching it.

think about it. if it's a plug and play kit, ala a socket that leads to a plug that just has heavier than stock wiring, guess what, it still uses the stock harness with the tiny wires. the housings will melt, the bulb doesnt have to touch the housing, the bit that touches the housing gets plenty hot.

HID's may be illegal... but so is the amount of light you're going to throw with 100w bulbs. Don't think you won't attract attention with those...

Non-stock installed HIDs are illegal since they arent DOT approved.

have yet to be pulled over for mine, had them for about 2 months

guess cops around here don't care as long as your not running more then 10k and have them angled right

Most cops either wont notice or wont caer. Unless you look like you have your highs on all the time.

hes right. unless you replaced every foot of the stock harness, you just wasted time and money on that heavy duty kit. you need HIDs staying in the white color zone
