Watch DVD while driving with Jensen VM-9411 ???
Wednesday, July 12, 2006 6:18 PM
Hi, I recently bought a Jensen VM-9411 DVD, mp3 and all that stuff player. It has a 7" fully motorized screen too. It sais I can only watch it when the parking brake light is on... since your supposed to wire the pink wire to the parking brake light. I know for sure and I was told by professionals that you can watch it while you drive as well but you have to wire it differently.... does anyone know how to do this?? Something about wiring the pink to the ground or sumtin... anyone have any clues?? Thanks

you have to ground the pink wirewith a switch in between, it needs a pulse from the switch flick it on off on like that and should disable it so you can watch, my friend had a problem with his. if you need mor info ask ill try and get some more

well from going through the wiring diagram in the haynes manual, the only wire you can really mess with in the parking brake system, is a wire that has a switch on it, that closes a circuit to ground when you apply the parking brake. so therefore i have to conclude that for normal installation you would splice this pink wire into the parking brake wire, thus the monitor would only activate when the brake is on...or grounded. therefore, to further conclude that you can just ground the pink wire and get your monitor on at all times.

so basically, you should be able to ground the pink wire and have monitor function

edit...didn't see the first reply. he's right, it may need a pulse of power, then a ground applied to activate monitor funtion. if its a digital circuit, it will see anything as not a ground as a digital 1 (on) and anything at ground as a digital 0 (off) so if you hook the pink wire to a switch that has the normally open side (the off position) hooked to nothing and the normally closed side (the on position) hooked to ground, and flip the switch on when you wish to watch tv it will take the digital 1 that is applied to the circut as to it not being grounded, and take it to a digital 0 because it is grounded, and the tv should come on

*note 2, if i am right, and i get hit by you because your watching porn on the interstate, im gonna be pissed, and i travel with a gun at all times j/k*

Just ground the pink wire. I used to do it all the time with the jensen units.

no damage should occur we did it in my friends 99 camaro same head unit

take the pink wire hook it to the switch then ground it

the switch is used to mimic the pulse from the e-brake but fliping the switch on and off an on slowly like one to two second intervals we mess around with it for a couple hours because i had never done anything like it

also yahoo has a bunch of posts on the same topic thats how we figured it out

Here's a simple solution. Don't watch the movie while driving. Then you won't have to worry about it.

Ok well just so you know, its illegal in most states to have a Screen playing a movie, forward of the drivers seat while in motion....

Now a jensen, well most of them, dont have the extra security like the alpines and pioneer. You should just be able to ground it like to the ground behind your stereo.

However you can test this.

With the head unit out, touch the pink wire to ground with the car turned off. Now turn the car on while keeping the pink wire grounded. If it lets you watch a movie, theres you solution. Splice in and your set. If it still gives you the error. Start the car like normal AND THEN ground the pink wire. if it works then what you need is either a switch or a relay.

Whats happening, is upon startup the LCD unit is looking for ground. if it sees ground then it disables the DVD player. This to keep people from grounding the wire permenently. Putting a switch in between the wire and ground simply makes its so you can turn your car on with the pink wire open and then flip the switch to ground it. Contrary to what people above are saying, you dont have to flip the switch on and off to mimic the pulse of the e brake. All you do is start the car with the switch OFF, and then when the dvd unit boots up flip the switch to on so it grounds and your set.

I went the relay route. All I did was use my Remote Amp lead from the head unit.

Look up Relay diagrams on google if you dont know how to wire one
Ill try to make this simple. You have four plugs on a relay.

85,86,87,30

Hook your remote amp lead to Pin 86
Pin 85 to ground
pin 87 to ground
and Pin 30 to your Pink Wire

All relays have these numbers...well most..

Now whats happening is when your Stereo turns on it looks for ground and doesnt see anything so it see's it as the e brake off.
Then it finishes starting up and turns on your amp leads
That clicks on the relay and allows the pink wire to ground out making your dvd player think the ebrake is on.

Viola

ALL you have to do is GROUND the pink wire. Problem solved. I worked for Circuit City and did it all the time.

I just installed a Dual (looks exactly the same as the Jensen, just with a touch screen) and while the dvd player was on, if I grounded the wire anywhere it would play. as soon as it wasn't grounded, PARKING BRAKE showed.

Just ground it, it'll be fine.

When you get it installed tell them they won't get paid if they wire it like that... If they refuse go somewhere else.. if you live in a big city, most any small shops will hook ya up...they don't care.

Thing is at some places, such as Circuit City, the installer is liable for things like that. So if I put your in-dash in and wire it to play all the time, and you wreck your car next week because you were watching Scarface instead of the red light, guess who gets sued. Me. No thanks, I'll put it in the legal way but I'll tell you how to hook it up to play all the time all day long.

On topic, the 9411 should be able to just ground it, this year's Jenson stuff has to get 12v and then ground though so just grounding doesn't work anymore. Also, I hope you got the service plan, those Jensons have a habit of not wanting to put the screen out after a few months.

Turn the caps off....
No one honestly cares if your mad about it. Most intallers will tell you to go somewhere else and if you call crutchfield they will tell you to return it and if you call Pioneer and complain they'll offer to buy it back from you. And your right your not the only one having this problem. Its a law, so every manufactuer has the feature. its not like there trying to screw you.

Its not that simple anymore, hency why i told him how to test it. New DVD players have a feature that keeps you from simply grounding out the wire. Hence why i explained all that to him.

Not true, every place is different.

Look man its not hard, just follow my directions and youll be set.
