When you work for a Retailer you get your products BELOW cost sometimes, less than the Dealer you work for gets it. It is called a Employee Acomodation. Thing is, is is Suppose to be for you only, and only 1 time a year. Some people ABUSE the hell out of it then you see new products on eBay for sale for a crazy price.

Anyone who spends as much on an audio system as some of you did is retarded. Especially if your car is old. I could understand spending that much if you're filthy rich and you drive a new Mercedes... but a used Cavalier?! I'd say 5% of the worth of your car is the maximum you should spend.
well thats you..5%? gross...thats like frickin 200 bucks for me hhaha...i could get a ... crappy sub...and no amp...haha....gross

Your ignorant, a car that is valued at $10,000 should only have up to $500 in audio? Good Point.

And you're pathetic, what's your point?
Mike Roth
The system has arrived.
I dropped about seven grand. And that was just for amps, subs, components, processor, and a source unit. I couldn't say for sure what MDF, sound deadener, wiring, fiberglass, and all of that cost. Another two thousand I guess?
Be kind to dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
HU - Pioneer DEH-P4400 - $180
Door Speakers - Infinity Kappa 60.5cs - $170
Amp # 1 - Infinity Reference 7520a - $120
Subs - 2 12" RE SE's - $147 x 2 = $294
Amp #2 - Orion 1200D = $210
Sub Box - Custom Built - $60
Wires and other random stuff = ~$100
So far... $1134
Near future
Alarm system
Sound Deadening Material
If you do it like I did... first buy the headunit, then door speakers and amp, then subs/amp/box - it wont seem so bad to spend $1000 on it, since it isnt all at once.
Hope this helps.

Or be smart next time and get your alarm first, to protest your investment.

True. Well, until now I only had the HU and about 6 months ago I installed the components/amp. My friend accidentally hit both of the components and @!#$ them up. So now that I am installing my subs, I am also replacing them. Right now I am looking for an alarm system. But yea, an alarm system first would be the best route.
Wide Body Progress
I recommend getting the alarm installed first as well. I know the pain of walking out to my car to find it in pieces with all my gear gone.
If I was 16 again and had to start my stereo from scratch, I'd go
1)alarm
2)decent HU
3)front speakers (preferably good components, run them off HU power to start)
4)rear fill
5)amp to run front and rear
6)Subs and sub amps
Just my $0.02.
For the record, my current stereo is worth about $3000, not including install (all by myself), materials/wires, alarm, or ipod stuff. Just like everyone else's systems, it's not (quite) finished. If I include past systems....well....it's best not to think about it.
The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

To me the year of a car doesnt matter,im going on my 4th year of autobody repair ,my car is a 99 and i have already rebuilt the engine w/ new head gasket, pistons, rods, timing chain, valves, new exhaust system, rotars, brakes, control arms, ball joints, spark plug wires and some other things i just dont feel lke tying now.....just b/c a car is old doesnt mean its time is up,if you have the knowledge use it,just cuz a car has over 100,000 miles on it doesnt mean its shot,ur average gm engine thats maitenanced properly can last about 250k.......and i dont feel that just b/c u have an "old" car u shouldnt put audio in it.....its your car do what you want, the louder the better......and unless ur a fo0tball player, basketball player or rapper ur probably not throwin tv's,rims and a system in a mercedeze.....
OK not to much here
