i got some 6.5" speakers for the front.. cause the stock little weiners in my 00 suck.
anyone mounted the 6.5 what is needed to do it right?
ME!!! infinity kappas i just made a bracket to fit from wood.
Sigga what?
I had my kicker 6.5'' midbass's up front, much better than the 4x6's

I originally used the plastic adapters off ebay, however, the adapter caused the speaker too stick out too far, I cut the door panel as a result which was a mistake, and the plastic eventually cracked.
I used the crappy plastic ones as a template and cut new ones out of 3/4" MDF, I am much more pleased with the strength, sound, and mounting depth. Now I just gotta find new door panels
3/4 MDF and mounted the tweeters in the mirror triangle pieces at the bottom of the a pilars... great sound
in my 05 i have 4x6 with components, i bought mdf and made a custom bracket. worked great i would not do it unless you are amping like i did tho.
Here is how mine ended up, but i used wood rings on a fiberglass door panel.........
dave's picture is all i needed. i took the bracket for the 4x6's and traced it onto some 3/4 inch wood. then took the 6 1/2 speaker and set it on the wood and traced out the additional area. bolted it up and fitment is good. now i just gotta do the other side. thanks
GO PATS!!!
dave... what was it like once you put the door panel back on? i would like to know if i will need to modify the door panel or not.
i made mine exactly like dave's. fits perfect. i've got about 1/4 inch to the grill in the door. no problems at all.
GO PATS!!!
Just a little bit of fitting and fiberglassing is all it takes. Sounds really good.

Yup, no problems with clearance for me, though with different speakers you may run into problems. Mine are Infinity Refereces, with 3/8" MDF
very nice pic Dave im about to do this same thing with mine also
and not to thread jack but just curious if the panels on the sunfires come off the same way the cavs do?

Wood. Use 3/4 mdf for 6.5. Worked great.
I used 3/4 inch plywood because its plenty strong for a mid and secondly if water ever gets in the door that mdf will just fall apart.
if anyone wants ill put together a how to with lots of pics for doing the 6 1/2's in the doors

would like to see, i have 5 1/4 in my doors which are currently just chillin there they aint even working because of the mounting problem and would like to get them working.... also i think i lost my old mounts from the 4x6 speakers ????????? would definatly need some suggestions for that
You ever see plywood vs mdf with water. Trust me plywood holds up a lot better than mdf. mdf just completely falls apart. Even if the plywood becomes all unglued and everything the screws will hold plywood together because all of the wood is still there. I dont plan on getting water in that part of the door either though but just incase it ever happens.
