i was just wondering if there is anyway to hook up an mtx amp to my stock deck...i really dont want to replace the stock deck until i have the money for an indash cd/dvd/tv...i already have the amp and subs thats why im asking. can anyone help with this????
if it has a high level input (which it should), all you do is connect that to your back speakers and it will work, thats what i did and it sounds fine
what do you mean hook it up to the back speakers??? i need battery power and such too...i dont get what your saying...could you go into more detail for me cause i really want to do this...thanks
Brett, you need to pick up a line converter like the one
HERE. You hook up the converter to your rear speakers and then run RCA cables from your amp to the converter. Everything else on your amp just installs normally after that. Once you get your new deck, just ditch the converter and run the RCAs straight from your head unit to the amp.
ok thanks for the help guys i appreciate it...i will be doing a lot of wiring today..i got some guages i need to install and my system
ok so i went and bought one of the rca converter things...and i hooked everything up and now my amp isnt getting power...i checked all fuses and everything but i am wonder..do i need a remote??? i didnt think i did since the back speakers would be powering it..but i dont know. now i just want my stuff to work can anyone help?????
Yes, you still need the remote signal. Since you're using a stock deck which won't have a remote lead you'll need to tap into the fuse panel.

ok that sounds right...but how do i do that without messing things up and what do i tap into??? this is soo confusing to me cause i've never hooked up a system to a stock deck thats why im asking so much.
You need to run a wire from your amp's remote (REM) to your fuse box which should be located on the drivers side on the dash. You need to find a fuse that is on only when your car is "on." You can test different options with a tester until you locate one, things to look for would be like, power windows, windshield wipers, ect. Things that only work when your car is on. Then tap into the fuse and run it to the amps remote. You can use a fuse tap to do this. The amp should then turn on whenever your car is on.
ok thanks guys i appreciate your help...i will be doing this tomorrow and i will let you know how it goes
man just buy a deck

yea i would...but i dont want to buy one till i have the money for an in dash..cd/dvd/tv combo
for my remote i jsut wired it to a switch so i can control when my subs are on or off, easier than findin a fuse, but this way u can kill ur batt if u leave it on
but where do u wire the switch????
from a constant +12v source..
REM --- SWITCH --- +12V SOURCE (battery)
like that
so when u turn switch on, amp = on
switch off = amp off lol.
You're still going to want to run your REM wire through a fuse at some point in time. I would still recommend running the wire off of your fuse box. You can still add a switch this way, and by running it off something that is only on when the ignition is on you dont risk running a battery down. Thats just what I would do though.
| fuse box |--------------[switch]----------------------{AMP}
OMG let a proffesional do this or find a friend who knows how to install stereo's from the questions i have seen you like to fry your computer in the process. not being an ass just dont want you to break something. I dont work for a car audio shop BUT i have installed hundreds of stereo's and to have someone show you in person helps sooooo much more and then next time its that much easier. you have to know someone
I had a whole system with amps and subs running from the stock deck on a 2000 Cavalier, and the remote wire was spliced off of a thick yellow wire (an ignition wire) right above the inside hood release, then fused, then to the amp. Professionals will do the same.
