hooking up amp and sub

How hard is it to hook up sub and amp to 04 stock cd player. I mean do I have to rip the whole dash apart to get the radio out, to get to the back of it. can you hook up a remote wire to it. I guess am I just better off having an audio place do it for me. I work 6 days a week and have no time to do it myself. Any thoughts?

I don't think it is very hard to do. You can use a line converter like the one HERE to convert the speaker wire into an RCA jack. Then just run rca cables from the converter to your amp. You don't have to take off the dash, nor do you need to get to the back of the stock radio. I had my system hooked up to my stock head unit at one point in time using this method... worked fine.

hook that converter up to your rear speakers. Than run ur remote wire from the fuse box......never have to take the dash apart

its not going to sound very good the rem is going to have more power than the rca

I had my sub box hooked up like that in my grand prix and it sounded like crap. I know it's expensive buying the adapters to put an aftermarket deck in a j-body but it is worth the money. I also couldn't get rid of the altnator buzz.

I had my amp and subs hooked up with that converter I was talking about earlier. I ran it off my rear speakers and put a resistor on the rem line. It sounded just as good as it does now with my aftermarket head unit.

The remote turn on signal is 12 volts. RCAs typically carry 4 volts. Remote wire always has more power than RCAs. Hence the name "low-level signal".

15$ for a aftermarket wiring kit is expensive? if thats too expensive then cut off the adapter and splice the wires back together and not bother with the adapter

if you're going to hook it up to the stock CD player the bass is going to be half of what it would be with an aftermarket CD player.

reason being is that the stock cd players in cars have a bass limiter

so when you go to turn it up and get them subs pounding, they will go to a certain volume and stay the same, and then the higher the volume goes, the higher the rest of your speakers go, but the subs are still pumping half assed.

just get an aftermarket cd player and be done with it.

then about the wiring kit........dont be a dummy and go cheap, get yourself a good wiring set up and be done with it.

I'm using the Scosche 1400 power kit and it works wonders

so if you want to upgrade your system sometime, you wont have to re-wire everything.

I agree with BoltZ22. Scosche is the cheapest you can buy around here, unless you just want to get an extension cord and cut off the plugs. I've got nothing against it either, I have a more expensive wire set running my amp/cap, and I have a Scosche kit for my power inverter. I have installed many of my friends systems with Scosche kits, they seem to work fine.

yeah you guys are right, what i meant was, dont go cheap and get a $10 400 watt max (with like 14 gauge power wire) wiring kit....get the $35 1400 watt kit (with the 4 gauge power wire) and then you're good to go.

i know that Scosche is cheap, but they still work as good as any other, i actually think my scosche kit works better then my friends old Tsunami wiring kit that he paid close to $200 for.

most audio companies do make an electronic crossover that hooks to your rear speakers. It will convert them to rca's and add a 12db boost to the amp aswell. pirimyd, mtx, sont, and fosgate have them for sure
