My first Cavalier, the Bottle Fed Zed (00 Cav Z24) was maxed out as far as suspension went... at the time. Addco rear sway bar, Control FX (I think?? Whatever Vincent was selling at the time...) tie bar, Eibach Sportlines, Koni Reds, GRD front subframe brace, GM strut tower bar... thing handled friggin' awesome!!
Most of it went onto the white 'vert that replaced it.
This red 'vert though... did the rear IRS swap, and it was instantly "as good" as the sway bar alone. Lowered with the Eibach pro-kit... then upgraded the sway bar for the IRS... it's unmatched. I can easily take wide sweeping corners at WOT going far in excess of the speed limit (oops
) and have no issues with body roll at all.
Bottom line though... any sway bar is better than stock. I don't want to take this thread any further off topic
wait a sec... i dont see how having the sway bar tucked up under there like that it would even fit (on a z24 or lss) with the stiffening bar that runs through the center of the axle. to me it looks like it would be right in way.
????
i am not to knowledgeable when it comes to oversteer/understeer so i really do not know which i would prefer. i guess im with the crowd that installs bars in hopes they just help out? LOL

You wan't neutral, understeer is just there to keep idiots from crashing, and oversteer is useless in FWD other than to cause a crash.
Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

Decide how do you want the car to react. Want more understeer, want neutral, want oversteer? Any of those three can have certain advantage/disadvantage in certain circumstances. Research which bar will give you what. Because adding bars just for the sake of adding equipment, will make your car react in a way that you may not want/like.

Here are some pictures of what they are:
Rule of thumb, auto engineers design their cars to naturally understeer. It's mostly a safety issue then anything, because it is a lot easier to control a slide out then to do 180 degree spin that Oversteer will do. Neutral is the optimal option, but the problem is FWD cars will not get 100% of it. You can come close to the feel of it, until the laws of physics smacks your face to reality. Oversteer is more for professional drivers that know their limits, and it is mostly helpful in low-speed, tight corners, road course races, where the tail could help you steer on your intended path.

ok, so... in fast and furious omgz ricer terms...
RWD 'drifting' is over steer and FWD trying to go around a corner but cant make it is understeer?
right?

To a degree yes.
But "RWD 'drifting'" is technically power-oversteer where you use your engine to swing out your tail.
You can induce FWD oversteer by making your rear suspension very stiff.

Pfft... that factory bar on the inside is TINY. I think it's 10mm, at most. Puny. And it's tucked just about all the way up to the top. There's no hitting it...
The only issue with mounting the sway bar inside the way I did, with the newer bars (and impossible with the Hellwig bar) is the amount of clearance due to the curve before the bend. If the newer design Addco and Eibach fit... it's up to someone to try it.
ok well id still bet that doing it you're way would make the bar come close to it. obviously it doesn't hit because you ran it that way...
you're car had the z24 rear axle, right?
and you say there were two designs of addco's.... i have both the gold and the newer black versions and they are identical. was there another even OLDER version?

what do you mean it 'ranges'? did the ls sport get a bigger one like the larger drum brakes or something?

Something along those lines.
All 2003-2005 J-bodies received larger rear drum brakes.
What I mean in range is this, depending on model, year, there were different size bars on the J. Now, I don't know if GM did a typo, but this is how they stated it.
Cavalier 1995-2002 FE2-- 22mm FRT/ 18mm Rear
Cavalier 2003-2005 FE2-- 24mm FRT/ 19mm Rear
Sunfire 1995-2005 FE2-- 22mm FRT/ 18mm Rear
