forgive since this is my first time ever doing a suspension
but i was just kind mocking everything up so i know where it goes and when i was playing around with the front suspension it looked like the springs didn't even need to be compressed.
This worried me, there were just loose and i figure with cars weight they would go down but but what happens when you lift the car for any reason the spring would get all messed up.
I snapped a few photos with my phone (so they are crap i can get better if needed)
thanks ahead of time
also if anyone in Michigan wants to help me with this install i would gladly pay them because im a little over my head and i showed it to a mechanic and he was confused by it as well so someone with a little J-body experience would be awesome.
It's ok if the spring is not preloaded. Makes life easier - no spring compressor needed.
Do you have your 95-99 bearing and bearing plate? Im curious to see how all the hardware fits on the Dspecs. With my koni yellows, there were barely enough threads to catch when the OEM bottom plate was used. Against Mark's judgement, I left the smaller bottom plate out, since the spherical bearing in the actual moutn allows for some play when the strut moves/going over bumps.
Good luck!!
If you mean my 99 mounts they are still on the car at the moment but my deal is what keeps the spring from sliding off the bottom of the strut mount?
i remember on those years a rubber part at the bottom that had a stop pivot to hold the spring in place. Make sure you use everything you took off. except for the new mounts of course.
ECOtec DOHC
does any one have a part number for the rotational bearing? cant seem to find any, I plan to visit the auto store on monday or tuesday so I will see if they can get them for me
thanks for helping a newb out.
OK do i need the 2000+ bearing plate and rotational bearing or the 95-99, or does it matter. Just need these and strut boots and i can finally get this stuff on my car.
On the newer top mounts the rotational bearing is much smaller than the older ones. If you were to look at a 98 mount and a 99+ mount you would see that the rotational bearing is about 1/2 the size. All you need from the 99+ mounts is the isolator housing, which houses the isolator and the rotational bearing.

Yea the rubber part on the plate the spring sits on on the strut. What the hell are those called anyway wanna get a new set of those two.
We are putting my OEM mounts on tomorrow and maybe new isolators if I need them. I'll try to remember to take pics for you.
sorry man no pics, we had a hell of a time tryin to figure out what was goin on also. if you have any questions you can PM me and i'll try to answer your q's and get you some installed pics to see if that helps.
OK, guys it looks like you are using the incorrect isolator housings. You need to be using 99+ housings. The aluminum adapter sits inside the rotational bearing. Mouting the top like that will make your struts FAIL.

don't worry i'm not going to mount it like that , i figured it was wrong,
yea i asked for a 2000 isolator housing he must of gave me the wrong stuff
i guess i'm going to have to take this stuff back and see what i can do. If anyone have a part number or something i can order off the web from cause my local auto part store is failing me.
ok i think i finally got thing together right....
bottom spring seat
And the isolator and bearing
pop the little green thing out and....
and it seems to fit in there properly
and final product
and this i believe sits on top
plz tell me i got this right this time lol
just need to get the strut boots on and bump stops and i think im set
^^^ good work.
Now I can look in to a setup for some Kw's

No Bumpstop and dust boot cover?
How much did the bottom spring seat and rotational bearings cost? Mine are screwed up. When I took my strut assembly apart the bearing fell apart - and the bottom spring seat is torn.

I have a bump stop and dust boot cover now
and if you still need the price i can let you know tomorrow but i assume you figured it out by now
but any way I have another question
what are these rubber grommets for, there are 4 of them and i assume they are for the rears ( I hope cause I already did the fronts!)
also the rear spring doesnt seem to quite fit around the rear mount.
and now a question about hte fronts:
I cant seem to get the shaft bolt to torque down to specs (i believe 34 ft lbs) It feels like the shaft is spinning whats up with that?
and look!
YAY!
ok i assume
for the rears
Top nut
Rubber Spacer
Mount
Rubber Spacer
then bottom nut
but shouldnt i use a washer so its like
Top nut
Washer
Rubber Spacer
Mount
Rubber Spacer
Washer
bottom nut
Anybody have an answer let me know
I wanna finish this if i can today.
dont forget my other question about the fronts:
I cant seem to get the shaft bolt to torque down to specs (i believe 34 ft lbs) It feels like the shaft is spinning whats up with that?
Great info and listening.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
I'm in the middle of doing a how to on this so once I get the 2001 strut mounts in, I can go ahead with the rest of the install of the front OEM camber plates.

I didnt grease anything the first time and they made a LOT of noise on stationary turns. I have mine the exact same way.
I greased everything up top, lol maybe too much, and it is much quieter now. I highly recommend greasing the bearing, but IDK if its necessary.
