first let me say that this is my first jbod(98 fire).im a minitrucker but needed a daily. i have lowered many cars for friends some the right way some just cheap springs on factory struts. i know for a fact that its crap that you cant lower a car with only 100-200 bucks and not have a good ride and not blow your struts, and yes thats a broad statement because some cars have better struts than ours. but i also know many j's in my area with "cheap drops" that ride close to factory. anyway heres my story and before i tell it i know for a fact that one of the first people to respond will be strippedcav and he can lick my @ss. your a jerk innocent kids come here to get good advice on what to do to there first car and alot of you people do give genuine good helping advice but all that ddouchedoes is rip on people and laugh at them because they done run the same set up he does. ok the rant is over. so i bought arospeed lowering coils for $75 on ebay and put them on my factory struts. wasnt bad for like the first two weeks then i put my dbxi12 back in and holy crap it sucked monster balls, i hated my car so bad. so after some driving and paying close attention to exactly what was going on i realized that the front springs were ok and it was the rears that were way way to soft and killing my ride. so after digging in the shed of my best friend(whos a mechanic) i found a pair of factory saturn coils off of like a 93 sedan. they are the same diameter as our coils and the same length but stiffer! SO I CUT THEM SON BITCHES. Bam the car sits just a tad higher than it did before but it rides almost factory and no noise. i was in shock and yeah i kicked my own ass for putting cut coils in my car but i have had no problems in the 4 months its been this way. so to conclude.................
cheap coils in front+chopped saturn coils in rear= good ride&handling.
let the laughs and hating begin but keep in mind i paid $1300 and oh yeah ITS A ECONOBOX entry level car!

i guess telling people to use the proper struts and telling them what is safe is being a jerk. i guess you read my 1 post on where i said "geez i guess i could of spent 20 bucks on these coils instead of 1200 on the teins". why dont you do some research and pull your head out of your ass.
also i guess you know being the backyard hack mechanic that you are that cutting springs on newer cars isnt really all the acceptable. new cars use different springs then older model cars that would allow you to cut the springs and not change the spring rate (progressive vs. linear). cutting the spring completely changes the spring rate and do to the amount of heat generated when cutting the spring, you end up weaking the spring.
i assume you also know what sure they cheap ebay coils will ride fine within the first few weeks because your struts arent blown. you wont really notice it until you uninstall the @!#$ coils and put something else on your stock struts. then again you seem to know everything and people like koni, ground control and tein just waste their time developing springs and coilover setups for our cars.

Ebay coils suck, end of story, they are cheap and they are cheap for a reason. You will start to have problems before long, pretty much anybody will tell you that.

OMG, you're an innovator!! we've found a cheap and effective way to lower our cars and make them handle phenominally!!
countless posts in this forum are from people who have had experience with different suspension setups. some of which were newbs (such as yourself) that may have gone the cheap route in the beginning too.
i'm glad you are happy with your setup. but i guarantee if you rode in a properly dropped j-body, you'd be asking yourself what the hell you were thinking when you made this post about how this is a good setup...
I've spent more on my suspension than you did on your car.
But in all seriousness. We're glad your happy.
However don't come onto the forums expecting to cause problems. Because thats what your doing. If you want to start a flame war go to the War Forum. Keep yourself out of the forums meant to inform and help people to not make dangerous decisions.
Sure your ride may be fine now but I wouldn't trust those coil overs EVER. If you want to see how a properly done car handles let me know when your around southwest VA.
