Well racing season is almost here, we have ordered parts to build 2 brand new engines for the season
Right now the blocks are at the machine shop getting cleaned and line honed as well as new cam bearings.
new 2200 pistons are on the way
we have 2 new race cams
16 solid lifters
I will post all updates and pictures in this thread
very nice, i hope you guys can pull off some insane numbers again.
did you ever get that dyno sheet found or whatever the problem was?

Can't wait to see the pics Bob.

Waiting patiently...would not mind borrowing a few tips on my own LN2...not a track car but get more power out of it....

yeah Bob, always like to see what people are doing to the LN2.
Want a parts list for my head build?
Its only about $600-$800
$600-$800????
we will have less than that in the entire motor
we arent allowed to port or anything so the heads stay really mild for us, power comes form the cam, and its almost 300 degrees of duration
WARNING:
this engine is being built for a race car that only operates from 3500-7000 rpm, some of the parts example, cam are not designed to work in a fuel injected car or one that will be driven on the street. this is high rpm race car on 110 leaded fuel with a carbeurator and distributor, no FI or DIS
PARTS LIST FER ME, PHIL AND BOB !!!!!!!

you guys should gut the hell out of the crank.....
ill talk to my machinist (he's built quads for circle tracking for years and has come up with A LOT of neat little secret mods to increase power). i think he's build a few 2200's before so maybe he's got some tricky stuff for one of them as well.

cranks have to be stock, the only thing we do is cut the crank sensor ring off, which is 4 lbs andhave it rebalanced
sent teh crank out today to be polsihed a little to open up the clearence on the rod bearings. we need a .0035 to .005 clearence to turn the rom we have been pulling. should have it back on wednesday
yes as long as we do not modify the counter weights or overall weight
MadJack wrote:Are you allowed to cross drill and lead in groove the oil passeges on the crank ( these mods can't be seen by just dropping the oil pan! ). These help the rod bearings survive the high rpm.
That's gotta be standard to make an ln2 run 7K, right?

PICS!!!
painted hte block, disaassembled the head and put it in the washer...
Bob, one day you'll hafta write a book on what all you've done... And the knowledge gained.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
maybe i will someday, be a new version of the cavalier build guide haha
I know you use 2200 pistons in a pre '98 block, but what other streetable stuff do you do?
2010 Honda Fit LX
streetable? besides the cam, the long block is pretty streetable. i wouldnt suggest running a carb on a street cavalier...
Oh lord no. I just want to know what I could take away from this for a cheap swap for my '88 Beretta. A 3400 would bolt in easy, but around here, most engines are expensive. I could easily find a 94-95 parts car for cheap though, and build the motor with a few bits and pieces. Given the difference in output between a newer LN2 and my old 2.8L V6, a little work would make the 4 banger lighter and faster.

cam bearings are in. pistons are hung and teh crank is back from the machine shop. i gotta pick the head up tomorrow
so i didnt get many in progress pics but we got the entire bottom end together and all teh clearences have been opened up some to help out the high revving we expect to do. new oil pump is in and oil pan was sand blasted and painted.
i took teh head to the machine shop and had the valve job done as well as a clean up cut on the surface..
today i installed the rocker studs, guide plates and head onto the engine. pushrods are in and intake is on.
tomorrow i will install the carb, prime the oil, install the distributor, and work ont eh exhaust manifold....
here are some pics.... check out the valve cover HAHA
the valve cover looks like sndsgood's front end.... nice
ya a guy came over and put some blue fire on the front end and he did the valve cover too
What is the brass fitting? under the #3 port for? Right below the freeze plug.
its a petcock s we can drain the coolant out when we pull the head in a hurry
