I Really Need Some Help Here!
Friday, February 01, 2008 5:27 AM
alright.... i bought an intake manifold off of a 1995 2.3L Z24 to put on my 1999 2.4L Z24.

i modded it to fit right because the bolts didnt line up at first, so i sent it to my buddies machine shop and he took it from there, but anyway.

i put the manifold on with the throttle body from my car. The only thing it will is rev up until it hits red line, and the throttle body is not opening, therefor one of the vacuum lines is messed up pulling too much fuel through the fuel rail.... thats what i can get out of it anyway.

Do i need to use the throttle body that came on the 2.3L manifold?

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, please reply!

so what your saying is..the engine will rev all the way to redline even though you are not pushing the pedal? right? .....if you have the TB that came with it USE it cus its bigger..but you could just have an IAC stuck open or possibly you forgot to plug something ...it sounds like a really bad vaccum leak..not fuel...check the back of the manifold and make sure everything that you didnt use is pluged off!! or it will do that..im assuming you used good new gaskets on everything

well what i did was plugged the vaccum line that goes to the fuel rail and then tryed starting it and it wouldnt even start. so my problem is at the fuel rail. and the TB that came on the manifold only has 3 vaccum lines and mine has 4, so i would have to do something about that.

thanks for the help man!

Did you plug all the open holes on the manifold (even the ones on the back)? Messing up a fuel vacuum line will not cause your car to rev to redline, you have a MAJOR vacuum leak somewhere.

shifed is right...if it was getting TOO much fuel then it would probably just die...you have major vacuum leak...your tb has 4 and the 2.3 only has 3 cus there are more on the manifold....the little nipple on the far left side of the mani goes to your FPR..the one in the middle is for the MAP sensor...theres one on the back that needs plugged and its a BIG one...then the ones on your TB go to the hvac, evap, and brakes i believe...makes sure everything is sealed and make sure your throttle cable isnt holding your tb open just a bit..that cable might be too tight or something

Sounds like the TB is clocked the wrong direction and you've got a big open space at the back of it... I did that the first time I did an HO manifold swap.

BTW... if that manifold is off the 95 2.3L... then it's a LO manifold... smaller runners... junk, compared to the HO manifold. You're better off with the stock 2.4L manifold.
