like the tittle says when you do the swap to the 2.3 pump do you have to prime it? my pump is not picking up any oil at all. and if you do how do you do that.
Dump oil in the pump, and also in the pickup, bolt it together. Crank the engine over with the fuel relay out for a bit. That's what I did and it worked great.

when we a 2.4 all built we do it on the bench (turn the engine over) and make sure that the pump is working properly and such... if it is oil will come out of the end of the intake cam and yull know its good.
also a good way to check compression and cranking pressures etc.. really works awesome.
but if the engine is in already and i dont have a psi gauge how else can i check or do i have to buy an oil pressure gauge?
Just pull the fuel pump relay and your spark plugs Then go ahead and crank it. This way it does not have fuel washing the cylinder and it does not have the resitance and strain of compresion to slow the cranking process.

Do this but then also take the plug on the drivers side of the intake cam tower out. turn it over tell oil starts coming out.

The car has one built in, it just doesn't read specific numbers. The little oil light is oil pressure. If it is lit then you're not meeting the stock requirement. The stock engine shouldn't need the oil filter primed, this is most commonly for turbo/supercharged engines. You may have a bad pump.

Scratch that, didn't read the post right, yes, you have to prime the pump. Fluid dynamics, the air isn't dense enough to pull the oil up.

you do not need to prime the pump if you just take the plug out the side of the cam tower and turn it over for a few secs then you know oil if flowing to the top of the engine meaning you good to go.
i will try this today cause i want my car to run good, would that quite down the knocking on the top of the engine?
