you must have the 2.2 stock computer for all the rest of the car and the 3.4 computer for the engine so the harness was realy complicated to make.
for the quick question, you must to know that all the engine gasket was changed so it is like a brand new engine so we does not test the power now.
it use the stock 2.2 manual transmission and fit perfect. also all the engine was paint before entering it in the engine bay. the engine use the upper and lower engine mount in urethane by rksport for the 2.2. you must to do 2 home-maid special pieces to keep these engine mounts.
it roll very well, it start like a brand new car, no fitting noize or fast work things. it use a 6 pucks clutch and the flywheel was machined.
the cone air filter sound like a turbo, its sounds fiiiiiiiiiiii when we push the gaz pedal. The exhaust sound very well with the all stock 2.2 exhaust line, sounds like a 91 3.1 cavalier or sunbird.
sorry for my english, i am a french guy in quebec province, canada.

Incorrect. The 2.2 computer is not necessary. ESPECIALLY on the 95-99 models. The only thing that it might be required for is the operation of the speedometer because you need something to convert the output of the VSS. In fact, from the looks of things if you use an OBD-I ECM to run everything (93-94 j-body 3.1 shoudl suffice) with a slight bit of tuning like the guys on V6z24.com are doing, you can reasonably expect to have 190+hp at the wheels. Which you have to admit is especially good, since GM only rates the 3400 LA1 at 180hp to the crank. OBD-II FTL.
And like always you can use a standalone like i'm doing, but then you still have to have something to run the speedometer like mentioned above.

Care to clarify on that? That's a bit confusing?

Gaskets on mine were changed, with exception of the head gaskets, since it's was much more work. Anyone swapping should at the very minimum, change the intake gaskets on this engine.

Stock 2.2 transmission gets used, with the clutch and flywheel for a 2.2. If anyone wants a diagram of the mount you're supposed to make for the engine, PM me. I'll be more than happy to send it to you. There's been some research into the 94-98 Grand Am 3.1 top engine mount that will bolt to the engine, and drop directly into the j-body upper.

Let me ask you if yours is the same. Mine, during driving feels like it handles just like it did with the 2.2 in it..... just having a ton more power.
For mine, I used a Stage II 2.2 SPEC clutch, and stock flywheel.
All I wanna know is where did you get those headlights from and where can I get me a set?

i think you're right cause we saw a grand am 3100 engine and the upper engine mount looks really near the j-body looks and the engine bottom is the same so... but for drougui, we design a plate bracket and it makes the job very well.

in driving, the clutch make vibration in the car because the engine mount are really stiff, the engine does'nt make any vibration in throttle mode or start mode whan we look at it hood open. So we think the vibration come from the clutch wich is really stiff.

i sold it to drougui 2 years ago but drougui is my friend so i help him to make this swap this winter. so the swap is complete and drougui make a lot of ride since 4 days now.

the intake gasket was changed like you can see on the drougui's pics, the engine was open to make these correction.

you're right but as the 2.2 97 come with a OBD2 we don't want to buy another computer like a 94- computer OBD1. we use the alero 99 computer comes with ethe engine and the BCM module because without it, the engine don't run after 3 seconds. it is like an anti-thieft system or something like it i think.

I went with the OBD-I because of the lack of anti-theft. The rest of the components do/should run independent of the stock ECU. One reason I didnt go with the OBD2 setup was because of the lack of tuning ability, which isnt so much of a problem if you dont plan on modding the engine much. And the guys with the 2nd gen 3400 swaps tend to be making a good ammount more power to the wheels than GM rates the 3400 at the flywheel, stock.
Only thing is you run into a compatibility issue with a few things, but it shoulndt be too hard to work around. I've decided to drop my OBD1 and go with a standalone system.
was it ever run on the drag strip?

OBD-2 Grand Am ECM and HPT
FTW!!! There are a few other companies as well that have OBD-2 software for the 3400 Grand Am, and some that will flash an ECM and send it to you.

I knew that DHP was doing the ECM that they'd send to you. But I didnt like the idea of having to get a new ECM if it went to boost later. At the time, I dont think HPT had anything for the Grand Am, or at least I dont think they did. I can remember their 'supported vehicles' list being a lot shorter than it is now.
Sad to see that you have gotten rid of it, but car still looks sharp. Yeah times have changed for me, between buying two homes and getting married and havin a kid, just havn't had much time lately to get on here.
