Alot of people get cars handed down to them, get cars for very good deals, didn't know how to drive stick at the time or just couldn't find any 5 speeds in their area....it happends.

Yep, thats what happen to me. Got it, first car in college. was the god aweful 3 speed, 2.2. i was grateful just to have a car. then got into cars, and now its a 5 speed manual. I have pictures somewhere. Was going to do a write up, but there's a text file already.
Death to the auto!!!

Death to auto!, hehe. Biggest problem for me was 1. getting that huge auto out. (and i had a lift too) and the wiring afterwards. Nothing like turning the key and nothing happens. lol (just needed to connect two wires)
how much did that cost you VTLoki?

Well, a bit of money, because I figured, I have to buy all these parts, I might as well get upgraded parts, so I got a lightweight flywheel ($305), a stage 2 SPEC clutch ($300), and a new tranny on ebay was $455 shipped. The master cylinder from the dealer is something like $110. Clutch pedal new from dealer is $50.
Me dropping my auto from 6 feet onto concrete... Priceless.
haha, that was fun. I did all the labor myself, so that will cost you if you get someone else to do it, if you can. I asked all the tanny shops around, they won't even touch an auto to manual conversion. I also got an LSD for the tranny, so that added money, but you can do that later. Everything i listed above is the main things. Oh, ECU from manual car, $20 on ebay. Thats it.

It's way cheaper and easier to just buy the whole engine and trans then to do the swap
ust search ebay everyday until you find a deal like i did
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7993669409
about 900 for the whole ecotec engine and 5 speed .
I also found out some people that do the auto to manual swap have idol problems
it's a big pain in the ass to do the swap just buy everything and swap it out
then sell your old engine to cover what you spent on the new engine
Unless you have the time and now how so you can do it yourself its not worth the money imo. And think about it youll spend all that money to make your car a 5-speed and it will be worth less money that it was as an automatic. I just held out and bought a stick shift but thats me. But if you really wanna do it probably would be best to go with upgraded parts like the lightened flywheel and clutch. I have a friend whos getting his maxima converted from auto to 5-speed and its costing me almost a thousand more than what he thought (hes paying a trannyshop to do it and they keep adding cost)
