for me, its the quickest way to install it without changing the throttle cable ends...

on the 2200 theres on for the TV cable on the tranny, and one for the gas pedal....

the 2.3's didnt have the same throttle black plastic rotor.

all 2200 intake manifolds are 59mm no need to port em...

the rsm ported manifold basically removed the lip to open it past 59 mm, to fit their 62mm TB.....

can someone actually do a step by step (w/pics if possble), to do the 2.3L TB onto either the 2.2 or the 2.4L(the installation process is the same for both i presume). Event, i kno u did a 'step by step' guideline but im a newb. i first thought that the 2.3L was a direct bolt-on, but apparantly not, and needed some modifications. if there is a faq on the instructions please provide a link. thanks in advance.

It is a direct bolt on, only it bolts on with 2 bolts instead of 4, and depending on what year and model it came off of it may or may not have the cruise hook and may have one less than required vacuum fitting like the one i had installed on my 2200, but i just used a t fitting to hook the 2 lines together and then a short piece to the nipple on the TB.

Also you will have to use the 2.3 IAC and TPS, but the stock harness plugs right in to the sensors. Very easy to install and a nice gain in the mid and upper range on my 2200.

I have a 2.3 TB in the classified if your interested.

changing the throttle arms simply makes it easier... it is a direct bolt on... as in the TB... changing the arm is extremely easy.

the vaccum fitting i didnt want to bushleague it and t off the two there, so i simply drilled and put in a third fitting which is like on your stock tb....

they were just simple mods to make it even more easier to bolt on... nothing more, for newbs or seasoned people here.

when it boils down to it...the only changes i really did was

1) use a stock 2200 throttle rotor on a 56mm tb

and

2) added the third vaccum fitting.

none of my throttle linkages would fit on the 56mm;s throttle rotor.

dont make it harder on yourself thinking its alot of work.

this is how the plastic rotor is held on the arm....

basiclly just a metal collet, with a guide nibs on the inside for the plastic. putting both TB side by side, with the throttle body upright, the rod in the middle line up exactly the same although the throttle body plastic cable rotors are different.

above is the rotor shaft from the 2200 TB. near the bottom you can see where the plastic rotor arm, stopper arm for idle adjustment, and spring go. basically theres a end piece thats not bolted on, but if you look at the side of the TB, it just looks like the wide end of a nail. you will have to dremel the edges down for all the stuff to slide off.

initially my theort was that i could get away with sliding in the 2200 rotor and be done.... no go. the rod is in the position as if the plate was closed. as you can see near the top the part that fits into the TPS is angled towards the left. on the 56mm tb, its angled flat, and in line with the throttle plate bolts.

once i got the 56mm throttle rotor off and the new one on, i readded the little leverage arms. dont really need em, but they help act as a washer to keep the throttle rotor arm on. then i drilled and tapped a hole in the center of the throttle rod and secured it all back on with a screw and washer. used some loctite as well. blue.

thing is once you remove the end cap piece by grinding it down (remember how i said it was like a nail above) you can either weld a new end stop on, which might risk the plastic melting, or drill and tap a screw in there, so you can remove it, if ever needed again.

all the parts still line up on the rectangular part of the shaft, the screw is just to keep it on.

also another issue for some, with auto transmissions. the auto trans has a line that reaches to the TB for vacuum changes. for here i drilled out a 3/16 hole and installed a 3/16 outer diameter brass pipe. so now i have all the nipples for all the sensors. jb weld to make sure it goes no where and also air tight on the vaccum. its the pipe to the left and lower theres usually this logo that looks like a sundial there. on the 2200 TB theres a pipe there, but on the 56mm there isnt.

final pic with the 56mm tb and the 2200 rotor arm in the right posistion. rained all yesterday this is goin on today

Event, That is exactly what I did on the 2.4L when I switched them up. I wanted the throttle body to be a perfect replacement with all the cruise, etc still working the way it was designed.

see the part that looks like a rectangle.... dremel the edges of that down.... NOT the entire metal area...

just the rectangular area

Re: 56mm TB, quick fix for some...

so i have to dremel inside the rectangle, and dremel out the whole rectangle? or just the edges? im stoopid lol

the edges of it...

basically the edges are like a cap that holds all the stuff on the throttle rotor shaft.

yeah the edges of the rectangle have to be ground off. At first it looks like this:
=) and the ) is what is holding it onto the throttle plate. Grind off the ).

Wow that sucked...

Ok, first question, I found a 2.3 t/b, what years are the ones that I'm looking for. I type in 92' on car-parts.com and found one for $5 and one for $9, if this is the one and someone needs one, let me know. I'll only charge the part and the actuall shipping.

bump...

what year can I get the 2.3 t/b from?

Event this question is for you, or anyone else who may know. i understand that the TBs from the 2.3 would fit onto the 96-99 cavies. the tbs from the 88-93 skylarks and acheivas and also the grand am se/gts. but some came with the 3 speed and others the 4 speed. does it matter which tranny the TB came from? or do i need the TB from a 4speed tranny? thanks in advance

Yeah, one of my friends from Michigan recently totaled his car and he had the 2.3 TB on his, and now it is on mine. I dont see a huge difference since the only other mod I have is a WAI. But strange enough, I actually gained on the MPG. The most mileage I got off one tank would be 320. But now, im getting damn near 380.
