Hey whats up guys, new question. I want to know what cold air intake is best for an 02 Cavalir ecotec? reason I ask is because I had a problem getting a short ram just to fit, only short ram o got to fit was a weapon r short ram, but I want to change to cold air. I just want a cold air intake that will not hit the hood or press on the trottle body cables ><;. Its not fun to be stuck at 4k rpm lol.
Beware the Rouge Dragon.
if there was a best, it would be posted 50 million times on this site....
pick one and buy one really.
I thought the only engines available for the 02 was the 2.4 and the 2200?
“Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that’s even remotely true."
nope that year was the beginning of the ecotec as well...
they also had the 4 door z24...
Would like to know the same thing. Will the AEM CAI FIT on an O2? I believe their website posts an 03 CAVI for the CAI
Very interested in purchasing an AEM CAI to replace my RKSPORT WAI
"FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS DRIVE STOCK"
AEM CAI
there is a link for a AEM CAI for the 02 ecos
but i cant see paying $300 bucks for an intake that will give me about the same power gains as an WAI
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
get The K&N CAI it is all plastic. I can get U the part# should gain 10-15 hp
its a metal pipe that goes into your fenderwell, do not spend more than 100 for this

Thanks 99redz24, but I wonder if any one on the Jbody has it on there 02 ecotec chavy, I just want to see if they like it.

10-15 hp.... what are you smokin?
Blah blah blah, dont spend 300 dollars on an intake... blah blah blah...
I got mine off of ebay, 190 shipped. If you want a cold air intake thats going to fit right, no hassles, no missing parts, quality filter, and IMO a pretty nice sound, go ahead and get the AEM. If you wanna piece it together, go ahead and build one yourself - it's all personal preference I guess. All I know is that I'm satisfied with the AEM.
Its my opinion that the AEM intake is probablly the best intake piece for the ecotecs on the market as of now.
Making one saves you money, but, I always enjoy going with quality name brand parts, even if people believe there is no gain difference. AEMs site shows the best gains, the quality of the intake surpases any other brand for the ecotec too. The unit that connects to the TB and then the aluminum pipe is very well crafted.
The AEM i recently installed has a quality sound, its not to loud, or hollow sounding, it sounds deep and rich, and at times cannot be heard at all. It fit perfectly, and the filter head rests right near the fog light assembly in the front bumper. I dont have the fog lights on my model so it sits near the fog light grille where outside air can come in.
This is probablly the only intake worth spending alot of money on. You can get it for like $226 shipped.
Im not saying a CAI is better then a WAI, as I believe they both do the same things, but the quality of the AEM system surpases all the other options.

well fo course it does. its AEMs site, i dont think AEM would Injen gives the best power gain on the site for AEM

If I remember correctly, AEM is the only intake that doesnt rub on the hood. That was a seller for me. Worth it to not rub and personally i just like the looks better, cause thats mostly what I am going for, well that and a plastic part is easier to tap for nitrous

you figure people would have noticed by now that EVERY COMPANY states that
"their intake outperforms all other intakes"
on pretty much ever site and every add in any magazine. VERY SAD some of you havent noticed that....
from aems V2 site:
Quote:
V2 - The Most Powerful Air Induction System Available
On a dyno graph, the area under the power band (or power curve) represents the amount of effort that an engine is producing. The larger the overall area under the curve, the more power your engine is making. The AEM V2 utilizes a dual chamber design that creates more power under the curve than any other intake system on the market.

says the same for their "cold air"
Quote:
The OriginalOutperforms Every Cold Air on the Market
AEM pioneered the Cold Air induction system for sport compact cars in 1995. Our Cold Air systems are dyno-proven to create more useable power than any other system of their kind. AEM proudly manufactures and assembles its air induction systems in the USA.

but heres where common sense
should step in.....
cause weapon R says
Quote:
Weapon*R Dragon Intake Systems are one of the mostly higly rated intake systems in the world. Used in many countries in many different forms of racing. Also recently rated " Best Overall Performer", outperforming Cold Air & Short Ram Intake systems, in the 2003 Tuner Performance Reports, Intake system Battle. Our Intake Systems are CNC Mendrel Bent out of 6061 aluminum, and then Hand Tig Welded to ensure a positive seal and proper fittment. Each one of our intake systems are carefully tuned, by matching the engines displacement, air intake capacity and airspeed to the intake systems tube size and length, maximizing every engines performance output.

but wait two companies already claim they outperform every other intake???
well aem says, intake per class that its in (i.e. short ram, long ram, etc).... weapon-r apparently dominates all. meaning long ram, short ram, etc...
look in ANY sport compact car magazine, super street, import tuner, etc.....
there are PLENTY of ads saying their product outperforms the rest....
granted my part time job, this is currently the field i work in this summer as a marketing and advertising rep...
the stuff you read about "ours outperforms all the rest" is merely MARKETING....
its mainly for those who wont put any thought to anything before buying. any marketing company will tell you the same thing
sound really shouldnt be a factor.... this is the performance forum, not aesthetics. as for graphs... almost every company is gonna put their best graph on their page saying theirs is the best....
HOW ELSE WOULD YOU SELL A PRODUCT?
"buy our #3 rated product, its not as good as so and so, but its pretty and makes alot of noise" <img src="http://www.angelfire.com/md/TOWSONFTBLPLYR/rolleyes.gif">
use your brain people. dont fall for every marketing gimmick in the book. not saying you have to go out and make your intake, but if you do buy one, realize everyone says "theirs the best"... which in reality is when you BS alarm should go off after seeing 4 companies make the same claim.
and there are PLENTY of quality ones out there that are premade that fit just as good as the next... almost any name brand company will fit without any hitches
Instead of re-typing what I said before already...here is what I posted in a recent topic about the same subject:
NJs Honda Killa wrote:That's the misconception about "Warm Air Intakes" and "Cold Air Intakes". You have enough cool air coming into the engine bay when your vehicle is moving. The circulation of cool airflow does happen in the engine bay. Yes, air will be slightly warmer but nothing extreme.
Cold air intakes are only as good as the temperature outside. If it's hot outside, your sucking up hot air, which defeats the whole "Cold Air" aspect.
Gains from "Cold Air Intakes" and "Warm Air Intakes" are about the same. Really, it all depends on the application, what they did or didn't do to that vehicle and what setup they have. There is no dead-set "this intake is better than this one" because they are generally the same and do the same amount in performance.

well considering , aem and induction dynamics are the olny 2 names i can think of that offer a CAI for the eco (induction dynamics im not sure of )
my answer would be AEM
for a WAI , i say either k&n's or rk sports

when I was buying mine the guy looked up on some websight that wasn't AEM's and it said AEM had teh best gain of 9.6hp. I don't think I really beleive any of that, but it's nice to live in an imaginary world where everythink I own is the best.
But I do like the AEM, except after the bypass valve and teh canadian currancy conversion it got to be WAY TOO expensive $400+. what was I thinking. I do like the sound though, can't really hear it until you step on the gas, then it makes noise.
Wow, I didnt know induction dynamics made a cai for ecotec's, but I looked at the pictures of it, looks like the part above the trottle body is kinda high?

Click the sig.... then on the site menu... intakes.
I have an 05 ecotec, couldn't you just atatch a K&N cone filter to the end of the stock intake arm. I'm on a fixed budget and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't give some sort of boost.

boost....no, thats where turbos and superchargers come in....
slightly better flow compared to the stock filter....yes.
