Pacesetter Header ?
Tuesday, June 07, 2005 8:55 AM
Ok i searched but couldnt find a direct answer. pacesetter makes 2 different headers for the 2.2 motor 95-97 and 98-02 which would be the 2200 so what is the actual difference in these 2 headers because every other company makes the header for 95-02 all as one part number. i called pacesetter and the guy said the gaskets and the flanges used are the same so the header itself is the same the intermediate pipe must be different. he then said that one is a 2 piece and one is a 3 which i dont beleve, so i dont know if he knew what he was talking about. the reason im asking i because my buddy ran into money problems and wants to sell me his header its for the 98-02 with the 2200 but my car is a 97 with the 2.2. thanks in advance guys.

the 95-97 is a 3 piece system , 1 header and 2 extension pieces

the 98-02 is a 2 piece , 1 header and 1 extension

you can use the 98-02 on yours , but you will have to have the extension pipe modified to work with your cat , since the 95-97 cat is flanged , and the 98-02 is welded

please, whatever you do, spend the extra couple dollars for hte ceramic coated one. it will look much nicer and the rest of us wont have to hear you bitch and complain when the black paint burns off.

that black paint is supposed to chip off. its there to protect the header during shipping.
if you do order a black steel header just get the paint off and have someone coat it for you with ceramic

hey am about to get my exhaust systems pretty soon but now am stuck because i really wanted to get the pacesetter headers but some other people told me that i would have fitmet problems with the stock cat and that i should go with the OBX headers because they would fit on the stock cat. i even asked a local shop and they even said that to go with the OBX. am pretty sure am going to keep the stock cat but now i don't know weather to go with the pacesetter or OBX and i was wondering if anybody had any problems with the pacesetter before. and my car is my daily driven so i would like for it to still pass emissions.

i have a 2002 2.2/2200 cavalier with auto trans.

the funny thing with OBX , their header is a copy of the paesetter , or the rk sport header

the same goes with weapon r

the 95-97 and some 98's have a flange in front of the cat on the ohv's , the later 98-02 the pipe is welded to the cat

and with your 02 ohv you will have to cut and weld , there is no way around it

so its not a direct bolt-on. if the OBX header is a copy of the pacesetter header than why do they fit better than pacesetter because like i said i have talked to other people and they said that they didn't have to weld anything on. and i heard that pacesetter has two types of headers a 2 piece and a 3 piece but i don't know if thats right or not. and also on the OBX header they says its a 4-2-1 i think or a 4-1 and pacesetter isn't. so which one is better for my car. man am so confused . any advance on this would be great all i want is the best performance for my car that way i don't have to buy a other header again.

the pacesetter is a bolt on if you use the muffler clamp thats supplied to secureit to the factory pipe.i did and bent the @!#$ out of the muffler clamp trying to get it to seal.and ended up getting a full 2.25 exaust made up so i could have it all the same size witch made it easyer to weld the midpipe to the hiflow cat.thats the way i did it .

the obx 4-2-1 header that is out there is a copy of the old pacesetter 4-2-1, which is for the 95-97, which has the bolt on flange for the cat

also it has the o2 sensor that only reads 2 cylinders , not the best place for it to read

the pacesetter's are all a long tube 4-1 , o2 sensor reads all 4 cyl's , the extensions are whats different , and i posted that info above

the 4-1 power wise is very equal to the 4-2-1 design with better top end

your car being a 02 you need part # 70-1276 or the 72c1276 , the 72c is the coated header , and you will have to cut the pipe , you can use the supplied clamp , but welding is recomended

hope that helps you some
