Well, wed at 3 pm something showed up at my friends shop. Tada
I unwrap it a little, and find this.
My 2.2 block i've been waiting on.
Specs: 8.5:1 compression for turbo in the future, the usual forges rods and pistons, balances crank, treated crank, look on www.j-bodyperformance.com for the details. Oh i have the turbo cam in this one, and their 2.2 lifters.
Well, last night, and this morning I went about the process of swaping out all the things from my old block to the new one.
Took off the timing cover first, looked like this.
After some wire brush wheel, and some degreaser, and some paint later, had it back on the new block, looking like this.
I then installed my new high flow oil pump after transfering the pickup screen.
another angle
Installed my old oil pan, wish I had the money for the moroso one, but oh well., its only looks.
I then installed my new water pump and the hose attachments which I painted red.
Then I put on my lightweight flywheel, and the SPEC stage 2 clutch. (from the old engine) onto the crank. Also installed the starter. You can also see the crank pully which I transfered over in the background on the other side of the block.
Then I flipped the block over, got all the new block sensors i bought installed, the coil packs, and the red thing on the left is part of the oil pump assembly. it has a gear on it that drives the oil pump off the camshaft. Notice the brass T fitting that goes to the oil pressure sensor, I'm going to use that to provide oil to the turbo in the future, and the fill tube for the return. Seems the simplest, and best way to supply the turbo with oil.
Another picture of where i'm at now. I need to put the A/C bracket back on, and then i'm just waiting on the lifters, or a lift at my buddy's shop so i can drop this into my car.
Hopefully, the lifters come tomorrow, and I can work on getting it into the engine bay friday night. I'm shooting to have it running sunday since my school's car club show is then. But, i'll keep this up to date with lots of pictures.
I don't have pics of the head at the moment, i had posted some a while ago, but since then i've polished it, and ported the intake side. Ofcourse there's also the top feed intake manifold which I posted a few days ago. Pics are here for that :

yes, and a lot of the RTV black sealent. I got it from advance auto parts. something like $20 or less.
Looks real good man, who did all the work to the block for ya? Keep posting progress pics so I can learn a few things

I thought you were only supposed to use RTV sealant on the pan. I didnt even know they sold a gasket for it. Hmmm o well...
I know we just used rtv on mine when i popped a piston (and had to pull pan).
looking great man, very very nice. can i drive it when it's done?
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

jbody performance did. They are up in canada, toronto to be exact. Took some time because of the cam, but they do good work, and have some parts that i can't find anywhere else. A little expensive but worth it imo.

Well, cork isn't required. The old stock pan didn't have it when i pulled it off the old block, and i don't think it had been taken off since the factory put it on back in 1995. Other's i've seen were just the RTV sealent. I was surprised they made one too,. lol, so i tried it out.

hmm, thats a long way from VA. dun think you'll be in the area, but you're welcome to come see it, I've never been to one of the bash's since imissed it last year. I'll definately try to make it this year.
everything looks so shiny, clean and awesome. good work.

Well, the sandblaster broke last week, and the only other thing i have to prep it is a wire brush wheel, but thats bolted to the table. It would be hard to prep the oil pan for paint, but you know, i guess i just wan't thinking of doing it. now that you mention it, i may take it off down the road and do that. or get a oem new one, and paint it. cause this one isn't in the best shape either, i've used the pan to support the engine more times then i should have. its got indentations and stuff. well, either way, it's function for now, and i'm just trying to get it running before sunday. So, I'll get to it later i guess.
hmm, would look nice all red u know, or a nice glossy black.
look what my buddy made, ya, he's got lots of time.
No big deal...I was just saying. It looks good ... I mean who looks under the car anyway.
Besides the peeps at the car shows.

Im contemplating getting my 2.4L block done by JBP too. That block looks just too nice. love the animated gif file. thats too cool.
Well, I've got some more progress to report. Saturday evening, i spend the night installing the transmission and the block.
Here's the picture tour.
First, drop the K-frame out of the car. I had already taken the old motor out a few weeks ago, in preparation for this. So, thats why there's no engine in the frame.
Here is the new engine and tranny, sitting next to the car, awaiting to go in.
Another picture of the block.
Brand new 0 mile transmission, with stronger machined spyder gears, and the phantom grip LSD installed, and the polyurathane mounts obviously.
This is me on the left and my friend holding the engine up, which is on a jack, and we're trying to get the tranny mounts in on that side, then bolt the K-frame back up to the car, then attach the dog bone mount. We went this route cause it seemed like a decent route to go, but had its moments of scare as you have a motor balanced on a jack, like 2 feet off the ground, all i have to say is thank goodness for extra hands. i have 4 people total including me, 2 did more of the work, but had my other two buddy's help in balancing it.
Here's another angle, notice the lack of the K-frame.
This is from the top as its going in. this was actually when that A/c compressor was in the way of it going up, it was hitting the upper mount, lifting the whole car when the jack went up, we quickly moved that out of the way.
Another angle.
Here's a step back, looking at the whole process.
This is us looking it over after we got the tranny mounts bolted in, making sure its all good. Then we proceeded to bolt up the k-frame, so we could put the lower motor mount in place and move that jack out.
Here's the K-frame mounted up to the car.
Here's a different angle where you can see the lower mount attached to the motor, and the jack is pulled out.
Here's a front view, all done for the night.
As soon as my lifters from j-body performance come in, i'll proceed to bolt the cylinder head onto the block. and get it running.
definately impressive VT. i now see what i;ll be seeing in a few weeks hopefully.
looks damn nice...... makes me want to get my 2.4 finished....
You say "K-Frame" We say "Sub-Frame"......
(hence, sub-frame brace)

thanks for the reply's guys. I just can't wait to get it running after waiting so long for the short block to get here. (since early january) but that was because of the camshaft, i'm told. It was painful not to have a car these past 3 months. Since my tranny when about the same time I ordered the block, and I took the cylinder head off to do it up while i waited for the block.
Very nice. Good luck with the rest of the install
