I finally got a 4.5L northstar engine. Before I toss it in my cavy I was going to bore it .030 over with 10.1:, if it doesn't allready have that, compression pistions. But the catch would be is that I am taking all the electronics off of it and running a carburator, just to make the swap easier. The thing is, is that I plan on using my 3 spd. tranny rebuilt with a shift kit. Would I need to use the v8 torque converter or a 3 spd. converter. Also, what would be a decent size carb to use, because I want it to get "OK" gas mileage.
Lets hope he planned this one before he bought the v8.

The way I would do it if I had the money is get the whole Caddy - preferably with the engine and tranny in decent shape.
Take the entire wiring harness out of the Caddy and the same with the Cav and then transplant the caddy wiring harness into the Cav along with the gauge cluster, automatic lights, and head and taillights. I would grab the chorme wrapped in vogues as well (as long as the lug patterns matched) and maybe the brakes. I would look for a 2003 since that is the year mine is.
Then I would take the whole front clip off the cav, pull the motor, fab the subframe brace, motor mounts, and strut towers if necessary. I would also look into reinforcing the unibody of the cav at this point.
Next would be the body work for the head and taillights, Caddy emblems on the front and rear, maybe a custom made "Cimmaron" badge and a leather interior with the gauge cluster mounting issues worked out.

If you are going to do a northstar and you have that kind of coin, why not do a rear wheel drive with the XLR motor? No one in their right-minds would do something like that, but mind-state could be questioned anyway given your current idea.

u guyz are lucky 2 be able 2 sway larger motors. the biggest i can go is a 3.0
honestly, if you have a welder, you can buy a chassis for about $600. another grand or so for a good front end (toss the subframe) then grab a 9" ford rear end. get all that together with the sheet metal, and BAM.... you can swap to ANYTHING ( after you get the engine, transmission, shaft exct.)
there's nothing wrong with going low tech (carb. distrubuter....) there are however entire books devoted to tuning carbs, i don't think anyone here could explain everything in one post.

Umm isnt the northstar a 4.6
I just saw a NS motor in the paper complete with trans and wiring harness/ecm. I'm a welder, WTF, I dream of this crap.
