Remote Starter- caused car to be towed-help!

Ok,I have a prestige remote starter, could not tell you the exact model, due to the fact that it is already installed in my car, from a custom shop. Last week I had to have my battery replaced...ok worked fine- a few days later- i had to have my car jumped(this is after using my remote starter that day)....ok got it jumped took the car to the placewhere I got the battery put in...they checked it on a machine, said it was good- checked the alternator said it was good..left there and kept driving. YESTERDAY...had to call to have a jump from AAA, because after I wanted to use my remote start, the car wouldn't start...could not get it to jump, had to have it flat-bedded to a mechanic, where it will be looked at later this week when he can look at it. Could my remote starter be causing these problems? The thing is, the place where I got my remote starter is about an hour away from where my dead car is sitting...he can't look at the remot starter until the mechanic looks at it...does ANYONE have any suggestions on what's going on, or what I should do? HELP! it's only a 2002 cavalier

i also have a prestige starter - and had a "similar" problem...

turned out that somewhere along the installation line of ths starter and keyless, the dome light wires got screwed, so they would just come on at will, and in such killed my battery like 5 days in a row.. I thought mine was a fluke, but your experience sounds all too familiar... not sure if thats it, but it couldnt hurt to check, i suppose.

good luck man, thats the most frustrating thing EVER.

does the car crank at all? I have an audiovox (prestige) remote start on my cav and sometimes it would start and run like @!#$. Turned out to be a coil pack. cylinder 1 and 4 to be exact.

^^^^ what he said....does it crank and fail to ignite or when you turn the key you get nothing, not even a click.........GM states on some vehicles not to put any remote start/alarm on some cars for this reason.........if you think its the starter make sure you have power to the solenoid......if you do then i would bank on a starter...but then theres that chance of it being alarm related

i'd think that there is a short in the remote starter system, causing a parasitic drain o ur bat somewhere

9 times out 10 the dealer will not be able to digonse a remote starter problem. It diffently sounds like there's a short somewhere though.

Try this: Tucked under the dash you'll find the brain module for the remote start unit. Remove all the plugs connected to it as well as the 2 or 3 main fuses connected to the power supply.

If it starts, drive to the installer and let them reinstall everything again.

Hope this helps

I too had a problem with my remote starts on both my wife's 2000 cav and my 2004 cav. I had both starters installed by the dealership. Turned out to be a relay wired incorrectly. The relay wasn't tripping hence leaving a hot lead on all the time draining the battery within a day or two. The dealership was so helpful that they actually sent out the guy who installed the started to my home which was about 25 miles away from the dealership and on a Saturday to fix the problem. Problem was fixed in a matter of 15 mins. Since the relays were replace and wired correctly I haven't had a problem with them in over two years.

you want it WHEN??

exactly what i was gonna say. we had a taurus in at work once, and something was shorted in the remote starter moduel so it would drain on the battery. we disconeted the box, charged the battery, let it sit for two days and fired right up...
