Driving light problems
Thursday, March 24, 2011 8:49 PM
I have been having a problem with my driving lights for the past few days. When i start my car the driving lights automatically come on like they are supposed to but they will flash on and off at a fairly rapid rate. There is also a clicking noise coming from somewhere in the dash, i have not checked anything yet, ill probably start with the fuse and to make sure neither of the bulbs is blown i was just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem?

One of your High beam lights are blown and causing ur DRL relay to click fast. Turn ur lights on, turn the high beams on, and see which one is blown, replace as needed, and go from there

Ok so i swapped out the bulb for a new one that i bought and still the same thing no low beam on the left side. I then swapped the bulb to the other side incase i got a bad bulb when i bought it and the new bulb is good. I then tested the connector and i have power to 2 of the 3 prongs and i checked the other side and the same thing. I checked all of the fuses they all seem to be good so im lost has anyone had this happen before?

My old car used to do this, the DRLs would flash fast along with the service light(not check engine)....after a few flashed the service light stayed on and the DRLs stayed off, that car also had no high beams. Sorry this didnt help you out but i just felt like adding...=(

I do believe since the connector is only a 3 prong plug you will only have power to 2 of the wires the other is a ground. Sometimes the connector could be worn or damaged in a way that will not allow a good connection. Double check your plugs and make sure they are not corroded or cracked or burnt in any way. If they are I would recommend soldering in a new plug and going from that point on.

ya thats what i was figuring as well that one of the prongs is the ground, also the other side works on both beams and acts the same so i dont think it is a problem as far as getting power to the right place in the harness. Which would lead me to believ like you said that it is the connector itself however when i looked at the connectors they looked in great condition. But if i cant figure anything else out i will give that a try.

Also, on the 03+ lights, the connector inside the light itself is kinda cheap so that may also be the problem. Try plugging in the light, then with the back cover off, wiggle the connector going directly into the light, if that does nothing, take the blue plug that plugs into the top of the headlight assembly and plug it directly into the light itself and see if that works, if it does, the headlight assembly maybe bad/have a bad wire somewhere in there. Good luck!

Well i just got a chance to play around with it some more right now and i plugged the bulb directly into the blue connector and still nothing so i guess it has to be either from the blue plug on back somewhere or the blue plug itself. I did notice a little bit of corrosion when i unplugged the blue plug but stupid me being in a hurry didnt think to wiggle the bulb while it was in the blue plug and i didnt have a test light with me at that time either. So am i right to assume the next cheapest idea to try would be get a new blue plug and wire it on and see if that fixes it?

My DTL's have not worked for years. they started to go out one day... the light on the dash flashed and then nothing. not even my high beam indicator works. GM and the terrible electrical. haha. my rear defrost keeps burning the connector up too
