i had just replaces my cam and crank sensor now im getting a code p302 for # 2 misfire on my 98 2.4 . the last 2 days it runs great, then it will run like crap barley want to idle, missing while driving , then it would go away so it comes and goes. i tried a used plastic thing that holds the spark plug boots on that connects to the spark plugs but it was runnng good that day so its hard to tell if its that. the spark plugs look fine with some brown on the plugs, while it was running ok i listened to the injectors one by one and they were all ticking so i think they are ok. please help i have no idea???? mabey ignition control ,module but if that was bad would't it be missing on all cyclinders and not just #2? im gonna spray the intake gasket area with brake cleaner to see if mabey the intake gasket is bad causing to much air.. the motor has only 8,000 miles on a total rebuild. thanks
tried used coil packs but nothing changed, im gonna move the #2 injector and see if the code will change, then i would know if its a injector.
ok now i took out the #2 injector and swaped it with the #4 injector. still missing!! so its got to be ignition. i put NEW coils in, and housing and new plastic boots, still getting a miss. the plugs are wet so its getting fuel. but its not always missing sometimes it runs great then at times it runs like crap..cant figure it out! mabey try igniton module??
Possible Fuel regulator issue, Plugs smell like fuel? If so. I would replace the FPR.
Good Luck.
Well tossed enough parts, I would be doing a compression test, a broken valve spring will cause a misfire enough to set a code

im going to do a compression test tomarro. the motor has about 8-10,000 miles on rebuild so i sure hope, and it $#%& better have good compression in the # 2 cylinder.
also, the wierd thing is it sometimes runs great, plenty of power then like a light switch it runs poor. i checked wiring and cant seem to find any bad wires. and its not a hot or cold thing.
did the compression test. the #2 cylinder had 0. did not even move the needle! the cylinder next to it had 140. soooooo either a ring is broke which i dont think, or i could have a stuck valve. the funny thing is when i was pulling into work it ran good, then all of a sudden back to running like crap. gonna try some seafoam and mabey that will clean the valve. or im gonna take it down the head. PAIN IN THE ASS!
