Starter and Alternator just installed, now it just turns and turns - no start

I searched again and couldn't entirely find an answer to my question, nor did I know which forum this belonged, so here goes...

I'll try to keep this short. I have a '96 Z24 with 2.4 liter and recently I had problems with the starter. So, to save myself $300 I put it in with my cousin. It worked at first, but then after about 10 minutes instrument panel and stereo went dead, then the car died.

After replacing the battery, I noticed a wire loose, so I looked around and could'nt figure where it came from. So problem persisted. Then, today, I took the alternator out to have it tested, and low and behold, the wire from the alternator unit was loose not from its bolted end, but that loose wire I had seen earlier.

So...I put it back in and put the wire back onto the starter and noticed a two prong little guy (that looks like the ones that plug into the side lights-type-of-prongs) and have no idea where that thing goes. I then started the car up after puting the alternator wire back to the starter and now it just turns and turns and turns...without kicking over.

Was that wire coming from the alternator supposed to go to the starter? Also, does that other small wire with the rubber protection and two prongs supposed to go the the head?

I'm confused, and if anyone can help, I'd be much obliged.

This is any image of the wire I was refering to:

yeah um , this isnt the maintenance section

the large red wire off the alt , goes to the starter

the plug circled kinda looks like the tps plug , but hard to tell since the colors and amount of wires in that plug arent showing

IAT plug? Just a guess from looking a your battery tray, but did you check you grounds?

The ground's from the battery? I just got the battery from a boneyard for $30 and it's too big for my tray (I'm going back to exchange it as soon as I figure out what is wrong. Where would they go if they are what you think they are?

Just checked; the wires coming from that little plug are (it appears) purple (for sure) and yellow.

i would check the crank position sensor...its right above the oil filter on the block. when i replaced my starter i wound up with a disconnected wire...ended up bein cps sensor. makes sense why it wont start too

id say crank position sensor as well.

its kinda under the alternator, more towards the drivers side. damn thing is tough to see from under the hood tho, you kinda gotta feel around for it.

If I remember correctly purple and yellow is the crank position sensor. It is under the intake manifold, and above the oil filter.

Car no start without the Crank Position Sensor plugged in - and that's the plug for it as mentioned above.

Should fix your issue.
