I can normally figure out whats wrong with my car pretty fast if there's a problem with it but this one has me stumped. Here is whats going on. I have a 99 fire with a 2.4 in it obviously. When I come to a stop the car will die 90% of the time. It will just stall right out. I have changed the 02, map, coil, icm, tps, you name it its been changed. Now here is what I did. The car was running ok so i had it tuned, the tune made the car much smoother but I think it made the problem more noticeable. So what should I do? I though it was maybe a sticking throttle cable, I checked that. I also noticed that it does not stall if I leave in in first get it to about 25 them come to a stop, but if I shift it does stall. It only happens when coming to a stop, driving around town its awesome, and it idles awesome. Any ideas or am I in the darK? I thought about a header leak but I don't hear anything and don't think it would be this drastic? The car is a 5 speed.

thats what happen to me^^^ to check if intake gasket is good spray carb spray where the manifold and head meet while its running and if it makes the car run any different then theres your prob. also heard of some shops running white smoke through your vaccum lines to..
8 psi with m62 and IAT under 100
OK, I checked for leaks, nothing. I replaced the 02 again, nothing. I drilled a 1/8 hole in the throttle body plate and that seemed to help alot, and it actually will run and not stall now for a long time, untill it gets warm. I checked all the hoses, all good, fuel psi good. What should I do next, hook up a wide band?

Clean out the throttle body.
had an 89 subaru justy that did this
it was caused by a leak in the break booster (a large source of vacuum leak)
if you pressed on the break while shifting down to a complete stop it would stall every time
and as you stated it run fine when driving around town just when you come to a stop
OK, just replaced it, no luck. I have so far replaced: TPS, IACV, 02, Map, Coil, plugs, intake manifold gasket, injectors, fuel psi regulator. I am not sure what else can be causing this problem it only does it in closed loop.

the 2.4's have a bad history of stalling at stop lights/etc when in closed loop. I'm beginning to wonder if the tune is flawed??? Did you have the car tuned with hpt?
You can try the stock tune to see if that makes a difference even tho I had this issue with my stock tune as well. It was embarrassing if people were around. You havn't done the 2.2 coil swap have you? One of the main reasons people swap coils is to reduce heat soak. I had noticed that my problem was always a lot worse on hot summer days.
try a diffrent coil if possible maybe thats it but first try the stock tune

First since when has the 2.4/LD9 had a bad history of stalling? never heard of it unless has a issue.
Second it is not the tune. Why do I say this? Well when you force the car to run on the tune it does not do it. This proven many times by the things he has done. I have heard that this car has had some wiring issues in the past, and know at least one wire has been cut and spliced because I saw it myself.

John- do a search for "2.4 stalling" and you will see a ton of hits from people all with the same symptoms that cannot find a solution. I had a problem for 5 years even after replacing damn near every sensor/etc on the car until I rebuilt my engine. This is not only on jbody, look on gaownersclub, quad4forums, or even google and you will see a bunch of people with the same problem and no solution.
Before I pulled the engine to rebuild, I was fouling plugs like crazy and had bad oil consumption. I believe my problem was either worn piston rings, leaking valve seals, or a flawed GM tune when in closed loop/ hot engine temps.
Mark, what mileage do you have on the current engine?
I'd test the coolant temp sensor next. I have also heard of the fuel pump having issues with overheating but I don't know if that is likely??
