few sunfire problems

hey guys i have a few questions about my car,its a 96 sunfire 2-door.std

my exhaust is raspy as hell and i dont know why .. i baught a magnaflow muffler and a magnaflow cat and its not loud but raspy .. i hate it .. i want a loud but deep sound to it.
i baught a obx header but the rest of the pipeing is stock so if i put on my header .. will it sound even worst ? or the sound i am looking for? i might have to buy a resanator and remove that small cat .

how do you know if a wheel bearing is gone in your car? i have a rumble in my car but no clue which one or ones is gone

thats all i can think of right now .

please help.

I'm not to sure what to say about the muffler to be honest apart from maybe you have a leak some where? Did you buy just the muffler and cat or the whole exhaust system, cat back?

I'm not sure if the header would fix your problem or just make it worse. Personally i would think it would still be raspy after the install.

As for the wheel bearing, wheel bearings normally make a growling noise so if that is what your hearing then it's a good possibility that wheel bearing is your problem, although there are a few other things to consider or example, out of balance tires, out of round tires etc, also if you work out which wheel you think it is and jack up that side of the car you can grab the wheel at the top and bottom and wobble it back and forth, there shouldn't be any play there if there is then that would be another sign of a bad wheel bearing.

I hope this helps.

i have right now the magnaflow muffler ----stock pipeing----magnaflow high flow cat----- obx 4-2-1 header .... that is what i have , the hearder is not on the car yet as we speak.

i figure if i get a magnaflow (fart can ) style muffler and a glass pack resanator with the header .. i think it will sould a little deeper and louder. is there anything on this site that i can search that i can probally get some other ideas on what other ppl got on there cars?

the wheel bearing on the back drivers side has a little bit of play in it.

If your getting play when pushing back and forth on the top and bottom of the wheel and getting a rumble/growling from the same area then it is a good chance that it is a bad wheel bearing or the start of a bad wheel bearing. So its a good idea to replace that when you get a chance.

As for searching the site maybe search around the performance or tuning section of the forums, they would most likely be your best bet.

you need a giant resonator....the biggest you can fit under the car. most people dont get rasp until they put a header on....so when you put the header on it will be worse.

ah wait don't do the resonator just yet. First off, do you have a short ram intake? I had a Flowmaster 40 on mine (piping broke and lost it in the winter /wrist) but I had rasp, replaced my stock intake with one of those cheap ones from Autozone and bam, no rasp. Think of it this way, you have a 4cylinder and it is always going to have some bwraaaappp to it because of its smaller displacement versus, lets say, a V-8. the only thing a resonator will do is make it quieter and add weight. Also, depending on the diameter of your stock piping, you might want to also consider using larger piping, less pressure, engine is happy (you do need backpressure though, at least some).
