Well my TB is rather black and all so i took it off and im at the moment cleanin it. I was jw how you guys go about cleaning the vaccum hose holes and can you wire brush it? i have a dremel with a wire brush attachment and i was wondering if i could use that to strip the burn on stuff off?
ok now im pissed. i read the manual i got for the car it said 86 ft lbs for the TB bolts well i freakin snaped one. Why the hell would they list something like that if it breaks them
I'm assuming your talking about the throttle body? Well using any wire brushs will only make the carbon build up worst for the next time. And damage your throttle body performance. Why were you removing it? If you go to any auto store you can buy throttle body cleaner in a spray can read the label. and make sure it throttle body and not carb cleaner ..the differents is throttle body cleaner is sensor save it's not going to mess up your sensor reading ....theres no way it's 86lbs torque

i dont know why the hell you took off your t/b to clean it simply with car OFF get on the throttle to turn the butterfly back n fourth while spraying carb/brake cleaner on it and start it and turn it off again so it doesnt get alot of fluid soaked in there you should never have to take it apart to clean it
I'll take mine off once in a while when it gets dirt in places that I can't get to it. But not anymore I figured a toothpick and some compressed air was enough to clean it off. and some TB cleaner to clean the plate and such.
taking the TB off is a good idea. I did mine and got it sparkling. its not hard but reread your torque values and i bet its in inch lbs. While your at it take off the plenum and clean it too. I would also recommend cleaning the EGR mine was caked and took some time to clean.
what is the benefit of getting it to sparkle unless its gonne be held open for show purposes

Well i took it off because 1. It was late at night and i was bored and it seemed like an easy job 2. I could get to places i wouldn't have been able to when it was on the car 3. It seemed really really bad when i was lookin at it and i didn't want all the shiz goin down into the engine, even tho it would have just got burned up. Is there suppost to be really badly burnt carbon on the bottum side of the butterfly? I'll post pics up later of how bad it was (well to be how bad it was). I'm guessin i did read it wrong and thats my fault. Slap it back on tho and it runs with only 3 bolts so im just goin to go to the wreck Fire and get a bolt and ez-out the snaped on and it will be fixed.
No that isnt that bad. I've cleaned TB on j bodys that look the same. Just a normal result of combustion/heat.
The pics are OK size, wouldn't wanna see them much bigger, though. Just right for showing detail. As for the 'dirt', yeah, it was kinda carbed up. Nothing that TB cleaner and an old toothbrush couldn't take care of. I would recommend being somewhere that you can really spray it up AND work the throttle GOOD while the engine's running for a final flush.
well i think it was worth it. wont have to worry about it.
See here is my point the reason you don't use a wire brush or sandpaper etc is cause you scratch up the metal and give the carbon somewhere to really grab on .yeah i do agree that the bottom was really caked on but just the t/b cleaner and like the above post said a tooth brush woulda worked..

well i just ended up soakin it good and using my finger nail to scrap it off.
3 short bolts and one long bolt. They look very similar to me - but I am not sure about the amount of thread, shouldn't they have full thread or is it just me?
no the ones i took out are only half thread
