Introducing: HT Motorsports Rear Strut Mounts for 1995 - 2005 J-bodies.
For the past few months, I’ve been working with Lee Waldmiller of
HT Motorsports (formerly Held), to produce and market a set of rear strut mounts for our vehicles. Lee now has the dimensions needed to make rear strut mounts for most of our suspensions.
Every order will still need to be customized for each spring and strut choice, and therefore these are produced on a made-to-order basis. Typically, the turn around is within 2 weeks. This includes a few days for production and prep, another few days for the actual powder coating, a day to inspect for defects. Due to production fluctuations, delivery time may vary.
Currently, HT Motorsports has the ability to make the mounts for those of us with 2.5” springs (commonly found on coil-over applications) as well as those with 4” springs (the OEM diameter, therefore any spring capable of using OEM mounts can also be used). If I’m not mistaken, this should cover ALL spring/coil-over choices available for our cars.
In addition, The HT Motorsports Rear Strut mounts can accommodate the following struts:
OEM Struts.
Monroe Sensatracks
Koni Yellow’s.
Tokiko D-specs.
B&G Struts used with the Gravana Coil-over System.
I will be taking measurements for KYB AGX’s soon.
This covers the most popular strut choices for our vehicles. More applications will be available once I have the ability to measure other struts. If anyone has a special request, feel free to send me a rear strut so I can take measurements!
Now, I’m sure some of you will have questions. I’ve already asked a few questions that I’m sure someone would have asked. I’ve posted the questions I’ve had, along with Lee’s response, below.
- What are the advantages of a solid rear strut mount?
- I would not really call the mounts solid. They do mount solidly to the car, but the spring and the strut shaft are insulated from vibration, harmonics and road noise with the poly bushings. They are better than the stock design because they are stronger. The steel sleeve that is molded in to the mount tends to delaminate, then the mount fails.
- How long would an order take to fulfill?
- I typically have these on hand, but if not a week or two will give me time to weld them up and get them powder coated.
- Is there a warranty?
- We warranty everything against workmanship and defects for a year. This certainly would not be the case if they were modified or altered.
- Are there any options in powder coating or bushing colors?
- We could do different colors of powder coating, but this will increase delivery time as I will need to build and coat per order. This has never been an issue for the mounts, as you can't really see any of them. I only carry the bushings in red, but if there is interest, I could also stock black. Those are the only two colors.
- How can I place an order?
- Call to place an order. I do not have provision for on-line ordering yet. Most all of my products require some conversation to determine exactly what is needed and on-line ordering is not an advantage. Although this is not the case with these.
- Would you be willing to offer a discount through a group purchase? (i.e. a certain number of orders upfront)?
- I would certainly consider a group discount. The amount of discount will depend on the quantity.
I've made an illustrated Word Document that shows you how to install these. The pictures will only show installation on Gravana Coilovers, however the concept is the same. I may post up a link to these in the future if I can find a host (I tried uploading to Google Doc's, but the file is too large). I've passed these instructions along to Lee as well, so he may include them with your order. If you need them for any reason, feel free to contact me.
The contact information for HT Motorsports is as follows:
HT Motorsports

The cost will depend on the application and whether or not you choose to 'customize' the mounts.
The "standard" rear mount will start around $100, plus shipping.
*Please be advised that an increase in the cost of materials may result in an increase in price.
Last, but not least,
here is a link to pictures of these mounts. I also have
a slide show on imageshack.
If there are any more questions, please let me know.

JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
tits!!
give me a few weeks and you'll have my order
Muffin, the only question I have is that I've got a rear strut tower bar.
Will these strut mounts have any effect on the mounting of the rear strut bar?
As you probably know, the bolts that come with the factory struts are barely long enough to mount the strut brace.
Will these bolts be long enough to have the strutbar mounted?
Also and most important, the $100 bucks for the product, is that for one only or the two for both rear struts.
Thanks for the PM on this.
I'll have some money for a purchase by next week if things work out with the price and rear strut.
Thanks for this offer.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
money in hand ready to buy so long as they leave room to mount the strut bar.
The price is for the
pair. Again, actual price may vary, but this should be a good estimate for you guys. For exact cost, contact Lee @ the number I provided above.
Here is a picture with them installed, showing you how much room you have for the bar. Those are fully threaded, and yes I realize I'm missing a bolt.
If you guys would like, I can try to measure this for you. Honestly, I don't know if a strut bar can be mounted because I don't have one yet. Of course, if someone would like to send one to me to test.....
Also, I wanted to clear up some confusion. I will NOT be taking orders for this. I may help run a GP if there is enough interest, however all orders will need to go through Lee.
So, those interested in a GP:

fortune cookie say: better a delay than a disaster
Oh yeah, I can take measurements on Teins if needed.

^^
Well, with that missibg bolt you coulnt really mount a strut bar to that one..
But, yeah, rear strut bars will be safe to mount.

So it would be possible to make a rear strut mount to work with the irs
my only question would be is when are the fronts going to be out because whenever they are ill be ordering all four at the same time that way the car only has to be out of comission for one day rather than 2.

I don't believe you will see front mounts from HT. Perhaps this is something TurboTech can look into for us.
Or there's always McMoney, if you can convince him to keep producing them.
